That in my opinion is one of the best compromises I've seen, to have an easily removable slide, without having to worry about screws to loosen.
It's a spring loaded nylon ball, which gives a stop, but then when you want to pull it off, with more force it will pop off, and go back on without any problems.
I have one on a Courtois Eb cornet, the only problem there is that the slide ends up really close to the bell, so I have to be careful, to not hit the slide with the bell. On a trumpet, this would be far less of an issue, as the bell is a lot further away.
Someone with a lathe could make this fairly easily, but, then again, once you factor all that time, and it would still need to be soldered on, it's probably a nuisance to do as a custom. |

I have had these on some Courtois EVO models, and think they're the best. However, the picture you posted looks like an optical illusion, where it appears there are two nylon balls facing one another, one from their regular "post with spring" and one actually "embedded in" the outer (lower) slide, so that it touches the other nylon ball when the slide is all the way in! Weird. I'm guessing it's a reflection. Could you post another pic or two from different angles? Is this an EVO II or III, perhaps, that have the "bell over the bell" feature? I have only had the I and IV models that do not have the extra bell feature. |
