So I'm considering pulling the trigger on a Conn Vintage One 1B-34. I've always been curious about these horns and recently found one for a good price. I am however having a hard time finding any sort of info on these horns, other than "the old ones are the good ones." I was wondering if there's anyone out there that has experience with these and could talk a bit about how they compare to say a Bach (moreso in terms of sound than feel). FWIW I currently play a lightweght Bach 72, and while this has been my favorite Bach so far, to my ears Bach trumpets have this sound like they're singing everything on "errrrrr" syllable. |

I have never played a Conn One but I'll pass this along to you FWIW.
I played gig with a friend of mine (professional) and he was singing the praises of the Vintage One. He said he had found the horn he had been looking for.
He did not play orchestral music but wind ensemble, big band and his "specialty" jazz combo. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

The 34 pipe is the smallest version. The pipe venturis were .334, .346, and .350
.346 is what a bach 37 is close to.
.334 is a lot smaller
.350 is a lot bigger
You could fit three or four “sizes” between those choices.
I had all three, .350 was way big. I liked both the 34 and 46. My first V1 which was stolen was great. My second one need a valve refit, which i did, and it was ok but never as good as the first one _________________ Mouthpiece Maker

I’ve been a Bach person for over 30 years and there are very few horns that I felt equally comfortable so far. The V1 is one of them. Very easy to play, intonation is good but the sound is definitely broader than my 43GH Bach - this may be the 72 vs. 43 bell thing. One thing that I found interesting and will maybe take some time to get used to is the rather short throw of the valves. Very nice horn overall. _________________ 2019 Martin Schmidt eXcellence
