I'm considering 3C mouthpieces on https://www.thomann.de/gb/index.html
My thought was to get a 3C both for my Cornet and my Trumpet making it easier to switch between them.
Bach is too expensive. Considering Arnold & Sons, GEWA and Thomanns own brand. But they have different diameter - up to 16,60 cm even though they claim to be exact copies of the Bach 3C claimed to be 16.30 cm.
What to do? |

Buy all three, and keep the best one. Return the others. |

Not saying you should get a Bach per sé, but have you considered getting a used Bach 3C instead? It'll be cheaper than a new one, and they should be easy enough to find online given I reckon'. _________________ 1975 Olds Recording trumpet

I rarely see any, and those I find are priced high. |

Should "3C" always mean a diameter of 16.30 cm?
Will having 3C on both trumpet and cornet make switching regularly easier? |

It’s probably a matter of where they are measuring the diameter.
Different people measure at different places. Usually pieces are measured at a certain point “down from the high point of the rim” which is ok, but the shape of the high point of the rim affects where the measurement is made. If two piece have the same rim contour, measuring a spot like .052 (1.32mm) down from the high point of the rim will tell you exactly how those two mouthpiece relate in diameter. You find that location .052 down from the high point by using a calipers with rails on the prongs that allow the prong to protrude .052 past the rail, and lay the rail on the high point of the rim.
If you measure a 3c this way it show .655 about 99 time out a a hundred. The actual diameter is pretty consistent of bach 3c’s. That’s not true with 7c by the way. If someone measures a 3c at smaller than that they are measuring farther down fro the top of the rim, and vice-versa. If two 3c dont feel the same diameter it usually because the inner bite radius can vary quite a bit.
The only way to know how those alternative brand 3c play or feel is to try them. _________________ Mouthpiece Maker

You might give this a try just to get a general idea, cheaply.
