Just a perspective when pursuing your dreams.

Lots of horns are in the $2000 price range
that people would consider a pro level.

Sometimes it seems like a big number.
Break it down by week and it’s $40 a week for a year.

Just something positive to keep in mind when
there is no shortage of people who say
oh times are tough and things are expensive, etc.

If you want something go get it.
Stay positive

On top of that: selling off 200 unused mouthpieces and just keeping the 5 that actually work will get you there even faster

I like the reverse argument: assuming I can play my rotary for the next 30 years or so, I paid about a 100 EUR/year.

My Bach currently is at ca. 109 EUR/year and that includes a full restoration/general overhaul with new leadpipe, new tuning slide, and complete new lacquer finish in 2014 or 2015.

There were times I stretched a pound of hamburger divided by two people for a week but I always had the horn I needed.

I suppose there’s always a way to justify an expense to yourself if you’re pressed. However, while I won’t argue that trumpets are relatively inexpensive, no amount of reasoning will make the cash available if you simply don’t have it. ‘Only 40 dollars a week’ can be a lot of money if it’s all you have.

Luxury.
You had a shoebox.

Opulence!
Your dads had bread knives. (Ours tore us in two with his bare hands.)

Be happy you don't play any of the stringed instruments, bassoon, piano, harp, etc.,.....things could be MUCH worse. I picked up a really nice playing '59 Olds Ambassador for less than what one set of strings for my violin costs. My most expensive horns (Bach Strad 43, Burbank Benge, new era Martin Committee, and Adams Sonic flugel), each, were all less than even the cheapest violin a decent college undergrad could get by with.

Comparatively, trumpet and trombone players have it GREAT..

I've found that the key to having nice trumpets (or boats, jet skis, guns, etc) is to first have a real job...

Nah, knowing other people can’t afford their instruments too doesn’t make me happy.

Shaft, that sounds so much like my wife used to do at the mall.
Now if she wants something, she clicks it.

Does $2000 still get you a "pro" level horn? Seems a little less likely today.

This is music to my ears

I occasionally wonder if I really should be collecting horns and mouthpieces even though I'm still really just a beginner....but it's fun and I learn more by exploring

A used pro horn, not a new one.
