Anybody have experience with Jk exclusive Flugel pieces on piston flugelhorns?
If so, how do they compare to wick/curry FLD in terms of
Tuning, sound, efficiency,etc.
Thanks |

Although my signature says AR mouthpieces, the flugel mp is a JK Exclusive 5C A2. Been playing it for years and see no need to change. Warm and mellow sound, good intonation, and also works higher up and on longer gigs. Very nice round rim with no sharp inner edge.
The 5A felt too dark and unspecific on my horn (the one in the sig), but I am no fan of this very broad and fluffy sound. For me, also a flugel must have some clarity in the sound and the 5C does that very nicely. _________________ 2019 Martin Schmidt eXcellence

Cannot speak to that exact mouthpiece but I asked JK to build me something-in-particular for what's effectively a bass cornet. They were a pleasure to deal with, delivered on time, and did not charge extra as they had the parts.
Nature of the piece meant I did have it measured after the fact--all dimensions as ordered, and it helps me play great. |
