Going to miss him. A excellent player/composer/arranger, he was was also devoted to helping beginners and comebackers develop their skills. I have some of his materials on my stand right now.

Sad news, indeed. He made a wealth of useful practice material available on his website, and his books are excellent. |

One of our brothers passed away recently. My friend Niel Levonius let me know and man, it’s hard to believe he’s gone.
Eric Bolvin was a fine trumpeter and composer and our friendship lasted decades.
RIP my friend. We’ll miss you greatly Eric Bolvin. |

It is a little odd not being able to find an obit. But it is starting to look like Eric is gone, unfortunately.
I last communicated with Eric back in 2020. He was going through some challenges. I sent an email last weekend. There was no answer.

That's terrible news. He and I had mutual friends in the Bay Area where I grew up, and he was devoted to figuring out the best ways to play our instrument. May he rest in peace.

Sometimes the family waits until all the arrangements are finalized before posting an obit. My old dentist passed away last Saturday. I was talking to his son yesterday and he told me his dad was gone. He said they were waiting for family members out of state to make their travel arrangements before posting the funeral plans. That may be the case here. Gone too soon.
Nice playing by the young man in the video. |

Very sad news. I knew Eric pretty well-we played in a latin band together for a while. He was a beautiful person and made a big contribution. He touched a lot of people. _________________ Schilke Handcraft HC1

I never got to meet or play with Eric, but I can say that 20+ years ago when I was about 18 years old I was going through some serious chop issues and asking for advice on the TPIN mailing list. Eric offered to take me on as a student at no charge. For various reasons I wasn't able to take him up on his offer, but it was incredibly generous of him and I have never forgotten it. I was very moved.
My sincerest condolences to all who knew him,
Dave Lindgren

I loved the enthusiasm he conveyed in his online presence, and wish I’d been able to meet him. Sadly he is gone too soon. My condolences to those close to him, and gratefulness that he published much that can continue a legacy of helping people be better trumpeters. RIP. _________________ Matt Dalton |

Couldnt agree more Matt, he was so positive in his on line videos and it was obvious he just loved passing on his knowledge to the trumpet community.
I have purchased a number of his books and they are great and so well set out.
My condolences to his family and close friends, gone far too soon

Very sad news. I have several of his books. Very helpful. By all reports, he was a good guy. _________________ "Some days you get up and put the horn to your chops and it sounds pretty good and you win. Some days you try and nothing works and the horn wins. This is indeed very sad news. I also have a few of Eric’s books and had enjoyed and benefitted from several of his videos. Is there any more information on what happened? Was he ill? |
