"F.E. Olds and Son" (~1928-1979) only made trumpets in LA and Fullerton, California. No idea where the "new" Olds http://www.feolds.com/ are made, but their "office" is in New Jersey. The company name was bought when Olds went out of business in 1979.
BTW, Tim, I did your test - made me think (but then, that's the point, isn't it?) _________________ John Underhill

Hey! Thanks for the response! Must be one of the new ones; there's no model designator on the bell hallmark. The braces aren't classic Ambassador braces and it has amado water keys. It needs the bell soldered back on to the braces and the post on the center valve casing.
Thanks for letting me know about the "test". If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

The Elkhart Olds are probably Blessing made stencil horns.
After Olds in California closed and was sold, it became a stencil brand for whatever outfit owned the brand name.
The public school I taught at for several years had some post California Olds stencils and they looked exactly like the Blessing Scholastics we also had. Also, Blessing was also in Elkhart. They were decent student horns. _________________ LA Benge 3X Bb Trumpet

Frank Ellsworth (F.E.) Olds was born in Medina, New York in 1861. He was named for the Civil War hero Frank Ellsworth of the Ellsworth Zouaves. While a child his family moved to Toledo, Ohio. After finishing high school, F.E. went to Elkhart, Indiana to work for C.G. Conn and learned the brass instrument making business. In 1885, he moved to Los Angeles, California. An amateur trombone player and entrepreneur, he first set up a shop to build bicycles, which was the only one in Los Angeles at the time. By 1886, he had established the first electroplating shop in Southern California, doing silver plating with H. T. Hazard, establishing the Los Angeles Tool Works by 1887. 1886 also marked the arrival in Los Angeles of F.E.’s future bride, Helen Daisy Birdsall. _________________ Butch Jones |

"It's a Blessing" - pun stolen from the Blessing company that used it on Wm. Frank horns they built. _________________ Ron Berndt
