I'm sure some have and will chime-in.

I played some Benterfa wooden mouthpieces for fun for some years after meeting Maurice at a Brass Conference in my teens and being forever impressed by the wooden-belled (I think Stomvi) piccolo and C he had at the time. When I saw some mpcs come up some time ago and would try them out in practice sessions. It is a very different experience in terms of resonance and tactile feel on the chops. I *NEVER* enjoyed playing acrylic and other non-metal mpcs for whatever reason, but the Benterfa designs were cool to get to know.

So, when I first saw this term, "TURBOWOOD", I was intrigued, and, to be honest, a bit horrified. I know the Gen3 Lotus "Golden" finish got enough airtime here on TH, so I'll leave that alone. Suffice it to say this 'dense' 'patented' TURBOWOOD branding gives me pause, but I'm really not the demo for Lotus products...

Looking forward to watching this thread.

Happy practicing - no matter what you buzz into,
-DB

I've not tried any of the wooden mouthpieces. I have printed some of my own mouthpiece designs using the material I make my mutes out of, which is approximately in the same density range as the more dense hardwoods.

The result is interesting. I find in general you lose a lot of the higher harmonics, (darker). Sound response is very easy and immediate. It could have its place.

Me and a friend was at a concert with Adam a couple of weeks ago! And we both agreed after, that we could not hear any difference in his sound when he changed back and forth during the show! He’s an incredible trumpet player 👌🏻

Thanks for the replies.

I am wondering what the benefit of this mouthpiece would be. I suppose if one had a sensitivity to metal mouthpieces it would help with that.

I'm thinking the tone might be different, for better or for worse, although Gonzalez said he couldn't hear a difference.

I haven't heard anyone else play it, and Adams sound is big as a house, probably on whatever piece he is using :p

I have the 7m and it’s incredible. It’s the widest and loudest mouthpiece I’ve ever played. My buddy has been using his for commercial stuff, though I rather use my nickel 7s for that zing. For jazz stuff it’s wonderful.

I just got mine, a TurboWood 3L. I play a SoloMax and have a few Lotus Mouthpieces all 3 cups, a Gen 3 XL, L2 in Bronze, and M in Nickel. I haven’t gotten a lot of notes through the TurboWood but there are some things I like about it. I do feel like it is a bit warmer but I don’t have a direct comparison to a metal 3L. I do very much like the way it feels on my chops, but it’s still a bit of a shock after decades of playing only on brass mouthpieces. I’m a dry mouthpiece guy and one of the things I like about the TurboWood is that it doesn’t seem to get as slippery as metal ones. It also sounds great in my Committee.
