Any trumpet charts out there? Is it the Prez Prado version I want? How about a good recording, too?
Thanks, Dave |

The one you want is the ORIGINAL Perez Prado recording, circa 1955. Prado rerecorded it later with a different trumpet player and significantly different arrangement. Not even close to the original version that featured Billy Regis on trumpet. It is one of the greatest trumpet solos of all time. The glisses and the high F at the end are absolutely definitive. And the tone is to die for. For further interest, check out the movie "Underwater," this is the movie featuring the arrangement. Recordings are easy to come by on the internet, audiogalaxy has it.
The chart is another matter. I had to write my own. I've never seen that arrangement published.

This a total non-sequitur but a pretty cool Cherry Pink story. I was traveling through the jungle of northern Thailand in 1990 on the back of a pickup when we we forced to stop for 2 hours for road work. To alleviate the boredom, I sat down on a pile of dirt, unstrapped my old cornet from from my backpack and played a few riffs. A Thai guy who had been sharing the pickup bed walked up and motioned to me that he'd like to try my horn so I passed it to him. Whereupon he whipped out a passable version of Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White. Remembering the old two line stock we had played in "The 40's Band," I responded in kind. We passed the horn back and forth, each embellishing the other with attempted and occasionally accomplished riffs and rips. Nobody glided up to an "F" and I think he topped me but in the end we had a whole truckload of travelers smiling. I guess Prez gets around.
