Hello everyone!
Is anyone here familiar with the Van Laar brand? From what I understand about the model Bb is that the trumpet body doesn't really change (ML bore) but the bell does.

On the site, the difference between the bells is very little explained, if someone could sharpen us on the subject (with for example a ranking of bells with the slowest tap to the fastest or other ...) it would be very nice, thank you in advance!

I'm familiar enough to say that they make some very fine instruments (I own a B4 Bb trumpet and a B1 flugelhorn) but am not familiar enough with their lineup to rank the bell flares for you.

Thank you anyway for your reply, I've never had the opportunity to test one of these trumpets, I've seen a lot of positive reviews with this brand

As a Van Laar artist, even I don't know the ins and outs of all the differences in the models. What I do know is that my horns are fantastic and I bought all of mine play testing a lineup to see what fit me the best without worrying about specs.

Seeing as you're in France, it may be worth a train ride to Margraten and a visit to the shop. I would imaging that even with Hub gone, the hospitality would still be second-to-none!

Even though different models may have the same bore size there are A LOT of variations that were done in the valve block. Some models have a heavyweight lower casing, and others have lightweight valve casings. There are also some models that have different spans (from the first slide to the bell, or third slide to lower tuning slide leg.) There are also a lot of changes of materials too in almost all of the different parts - finger buttons, caps, inner slide tubes, outer slide tubes, and even the hooks/rings.

There's also a lot of variation in the leadpipes and tuning slides offered.

I know there are different bells (taper, material and other), but I don't know what they are 😅

Hub was a genius and was always refining. I have played several horns made by Yannick and they were stunning.

Damn thanks for your reply, I didn't know there were so many changes. It's unfortunate they don't put the changes on their site, I always find it interesting to understand why you like or dislike an instrument.

I'm not very old, but a few years ago I had the chance to try out the B5, too bad I wasn't very interested in trumpets at the time...
I just remember that it played well and had a rich sound
