I’m thinking about buying one of these cases but wanted to know if the interior preformed sections can be removed to help store mutes or other stuff in the area used for a second trumpet.
Also, interested to know if those preformed sections can be trimmed to fit a different type trumpet that has the tuning slide closer to the bell. Like a Monette trumpet. _________________ Thane Performance Trumpet 43 Bell - Raw Brass

The preformed sections can be removed. If you take out the triangular one that supports the bell in the second section you can definitely use that area for storage. It will fit a Harmon, H&B cup, straight, and plunger if you do that.
The material is soft -- sort of velvet-covered foam -- so I'm sure those (re)movable pieces could be trimmed, but I don't know how well they would hold their shape if they were trimmed. Some of the pieces have Velcro on several of the sides so you might also need to add new strips if you start cutting. |

One other question is do you think this case can accommodate at larger bell. 5 3/8" size ?? _________________ Thane Performance Trumpet 43 Bell - Raw Brass

I think so, but I don't have a trumpet with a bell larger than 5" so I cannot say for certain. I bought mine from J. Landress Brass. They're great to work with. You could get in touch with them and ask. They could probably test it out for you if they don't know offhand. Gard is also great about responding to e-mails so you could shoot them a note as well. Good luck! |

Problem I see is Landress doesn’t have that case in stock.
I might have to wait till next month to ask questions due to ACB and maybe Landress being at ITG. _________________ Thane Performance Trumpet 43 Bell - Raw Brass

Quote: | I think folks are confusing the new Fiberglass Double with the older Elite Compact Double.
The second slot on the fiberglass looks pretty unchangeable, and not big enough for mutes, and probably not fitting a large bell. |
I have the new fiberglass double, and that is what I was commenting on in my previous response. |

I tried the elite compact triple case and there was no way to fit my Monette trumpet into that case. I had to return that case……
The fiberglass case looks to be a taller case and that is why I asked my questions on the parts that look removable on the inside of that case.
Unfortunately Landress doesn’t have one of the fiberglass cases in stock and if he did he could try one of the Monette horns he has for sale to see if it would fit. _________________ Thane Performance Trumpet 43 Bell - Raw Brass

The Gard fiberglass case looks very nice. Has anyone had the opportunity to compare it to a Marcus Bonna double case? _________________ Bb: Schagerl Ganschhorn heavy, Schagerl James Morrison, Van Laar B7, Conn 8B Artist, Conn 10B Victor

I don't have a MB double so cannot compare it with the Gard double fiberglass case. I do, however, have the MB compact triple (an older configuration) and the MB single so I can at least offer some general comments.
First, I'd say that the construction quality of both is excellent. The nylon, zippers, handles, pads, etc., all seem to be of very high quality. The cases feel really solid and sturdy, but not particularly heavy (unlike the Torpedo Bags Coyote).
Second, the MB case is highly customizable. The instruments are secured via moveable pads. Those moveable pads protect the bell, isolate the instrument from lateral or up and down motions, etc. That might give it a bit more versatile than the Gard for different instrument sizes. On the down side, it doesn't "lock down" a horn quite as well as the Gard case does. I don't mean to imply that a trumpet would flop around in the MB case (if the pads were properly placed), just that the Gard case seems to be even better at really minimizing movement. |

My use-case:
1- Compact/lightweight for bike/motorbike commute
2- Bring 1 trumpet and some mutes in the second trumpet slot
3- Hard shell (the Gard Elite will not be robust enough)
4- Large-enough pocket to fit my iPad inside (11", not 13")
Both seem to fill the bill.
I already have a Gard Elite triple trumpets when I commute by car, and a Marcus Bonna for my bass trombone, so I know both qualities are good, and the price tag of the both of them is very similar. _________________ Bb: Schagerl Ganschhorn heavy, Schagerl James Morrison, Van Laar B7, Conn 8B Artist, Conn 10B Victor

I had a MB double when I was looking at the Gard fiberglass.
The Gard is a good amount larger, but it also has much more storage area on the outside pockets and a bit more interior padding.
If you want something protective with a minimal footprint, and you don’t need to carry many accessories with you, the MB double is easily the best option.
If you need to carry more than just the basics with you, I think the Gard’s front pockets are a lot more spacious better than the pocket on the MB.
I also like the backpack straps on the Gard better. _________________ Thane Performing Artist

I have the Marcus Bonna 2.5 case which is similar in size, but has plenty of room for a Bb, a C, and either tons of stuff or a pick and misc. The zippered pocket has plenty for music and an iPad Pro 13".

I ordered both cases to compare.
Here is the comparison. _________________ Bb: Schagerl Ganschhorn heavy, Schagerl James Morrison, Van Laar B7, Conn 8B Artist, Conn 10B Victor
