I'm recently retired and eager to pick up the horn again after a 40-ish year break. I want to do this with direction from a teacher. I'm finding it surprisingly hard to locate a teacher near me (Dobbs Ferry, Westchester NY). I prefer someone I can see in person vs. strictly online.
Google hasn't been very helpful. Mostly listings of schools, along with a few individuals, most of whom don't have trumpet as their primary instrument.
Is there a place on this site (or elsewhere) that anyone can recommend? |

Are there any music stores in your vicinity, they will often have a lesson program? Another place to look if you have a university with a music program in the vicinity, sometime grad students will teach to pick up some extra money.
For just starting I don't know that you necessarily need a trumpet player instructor. My starting band instructor played clarinet but he knew enough about brass to get us beginners started with the right fundamentals.
Good luck. _________________ Bach Stradivarius 180S37

The trumpeters in this orchestra might be able to help you. _________________ Sforzando101

You are not far from NYC. There should be an opportunity there,
Good luck! _________________ No matter where you go, there you are! |

Are there any colleges near by? Contact the high school band director he may know a trumpet tutor. _________________ Holton 605 Shepherds crook cornet

I don’t know where you’ve gotten with this, but teaching faculty at any colleges of universities, offering music programs, who are brass teachers, should at least be a good resource to either teach you or steer you in the right direction. Many faculty members, especially during the summer months, give lessons and hold teaching sessions. Advanced students who’ve had good training are also an excellent source. Good luck with your hunt. _________________ long retired; collect and restore for self and others; hunt for others from pros to soccer moms for young students. always looking for interesting horns of all vintages as well as MP's and parts; especially Strad and Connstellation parts. |

Mark Morganelli runs Jazz Forum Arts in Tarrytown. If he doesn't give lessons he may know someone who does.
