|
|
As I age I'm seriously thinking of going to a goldplated mouthpiece. I play very wet but, with age, my skin is much dryer now as opposed to when I was younger and I find myself having to "over wet" my lips.
I play Reeves' pieces and was wondering if any of you have experience with Reeves' goldplating.
(1) do they plate in-house or send them out for plating?
(2) how does their gold compare to, let's say Monette or Warburton?
(3) is Reeves gold rich looking like the 2 I just mentioned and does it last or wear off very quickly like the original Giardinelli NY pieces used to???
I need to replace 3-4 of my older Reeves pieces and, at $90 additional per piece for goldplating, I just want to make sure that it's worth it!
Thank all of you in advance for any info you can provide me.

I use their Delrin rims. They are cheaper than Gold plating and I find them to be more comfortable than brass. There is no place on their web site to specify that so you have to request it in the special instructions. I like the black as it causes people to question what is that. I tell them it is licorice to help me play sweetly. _________________ — Doug |

Reeves is a top tier custom shop. I am sure their gold plating is in line with the rest of their excellent stuff.
Everyone at Reeves is super great and would gladly explain over the phone whatever questions you had about their plating process. |

Just replace or replate the rims unless the pieces are damaged. Also, Ken Titmus, former vice president at Warburton has his own shop in Orlando and does excellent work.
