Is this the same James Stamp who arranged the band version of the Star Spangled Banner?
Just played the lead part while sitting in with a local community band at the 50th anniversary celebration for Henry Cowell State Park here in California.

The first chair all of a sudden tossed it to me about a second before the downbeat.......the guy didn't have the chops that day, I guess.

What a great surprise! I didn't even have time to read it down before playing. There I was, all tacet for the first half of the chart, then I was in, playing the soaring lead up to C above the staff, then holding that C at the end. Felt good!

Now I understand why

I think that you might be confusing James Stamp with the band composer Jack Stamp.

Robert - You hit the nail on the head; it was Jack Stamp. Thanx.

Jack Stamp arranging the Star Spangled Banner... I bet that was interesting.... considering his other works such as Gavorkna Fanfare, and Antithagram for Band.... was it a typical arrangement, or was it a little bit on the "different" side?

It's definitely a little bit on the different side, but tasteful just the same in my opinion.

from what I understand, Jack Stamp makes Will Revelli look like an altar boy when it comes to rehearsal techniques. Throwing ppl out of rehearsals and stuff..hahaha whatever works
