anyone have a suggestion for books or other sources of patterns, figures, licks, etc. for trumpet in rock and r&b bands? i'd appreciate any leads. _________________ Jim Hatfield

You might try the Jamey Aebersold book "Nuthin' But Blues (Jazz and Rock)". All Rock and R&B music is based on Blues progressions. You can develop some great licks and horn accents from this. Also you could try to pick up a few guitar books that have text book "licks" for guitar and notate them for your use.

I have that Abersold book(and others) and it definetely helps. But nothing seems to help me more than picking a rock song and painstakingly charting it out measure by measure, note by note. I have done that an awful lot. The process sucks(tedious) but well worth it in the end. |
