Did anyone out there ever get to hear Doc and the band live at the NBC studios? It must have been awe-inspiring with the amount of "heavy-hitters" that were in that band! _________________ Jay S.

I never heard the band in the NBC studios, but I did see them at an outdoor concert with 98,000 other people. It was unbelievable.
The trumpet section was:
Chuck Findley
Frank Szabo
Snooky Young
Conte Candoli
man did that band swing! _________________ Nicholas Dyson

I saw Doc with the same trumpet section that Nick Dyson mentioned. Great show- After the show I ran into Doc wandering around the hotel, and I got a chance to tell him how much I admired his playing. He was having back problems, and said he really needed to rest and had to take some time off of the Tonight Show for a while, because he said standing really aggravated it. It didn't diminish his playing one bit- a true pro in every sense of the word.
