|
|
Mendez composed several works for band and orchestra that were not trumpet pieces. One of them was composed while he sat in his hotel room, and then given to a friend that was conducting the university band he was soloing with.
This composition for band ended up becoming one of the band's favorite pieces and they performed it often. Eventually, it became the offical state song. It can usually be heard on national television during bowl games held in this state. The Mendez estate still receives royalty payments from ASCAP for the broadcast of this piece when it is played on TV.
Mendez Trivia Question #7: What state uses this piece as their official "song" and what is the name of the composition?
(This will be fairly easy for anyone associated with Mendez. )

This is not easy for a guy like me on the other side of the "Pond"
(but since noe one on your side have given it a shot, I'll take one)
I will guess it could be on of the marches he composed, perhaps "Diamond Head March"?
This march was first performed on Honolulu, and Hawai is one of the states in US, right?

I'm going to have to buy you dinner or something, Ole!
You are right again. Diamond Head March is the state song of Hawaii.
(But, can you whistle it for me? Ha Ha!
