MY LUCKY DAY!!!"
Ray just sent me a signed copy of his new PA'LANTE' (This phrase became very popular in the NYC Latino comm. during the 60's-70's. It became the war cry for the economically depressed Newyourican comm. at the time. PA'LANTE' (short for Para Alante') stands for MOVING FORWARD....AND THAT IS JUST WHAT THIS CD DOES BEST!!!!
This is NOT just your average loose jam. The more one listens to this CD, the more artistic and complex and beautiful this WORK OF ART becomes.Check these cut and titles.

"Flight To Jordon"
Duke Jordan's fireball vehicle that gets this Sextet off in flying colors.

"KD!"
Who else??? for McKinley "Kenny Dorham" intelectual and sophisticated.

YardBird Suite..
Charlie Parker bebop gem...Intense and beautiful! GREAT-SOLID!

"Miles Away"
Here is a piece that shows a shining example of the Alum Joral bubble mute. Miles (the Picasso of Jazz) This is Ray Vega' way of just saying to Miles...THANKS TO MILES FOR JUST BEING HONEST ABOUT HIS MUSIC.

Descarga New York
This beauty was done on the first take in tribute to NYC salsa bands from the late Louie Ramirez, the late Pete "ElConde" Rodriguez, The late Hector Lavoe, Luis Perico Ortiz, Johnny Pacheco and Ray Barrentto...Just a jamm from the heart to each and every one of these ICONs of cuban.

MELANI'S DREAM.
Written when his 14 yr. old daughter was 6. A lullaby for all parents who like to sit and just watch their children sleep (like angels themselves)...it's so peaceful. Nothing is closer to the face of God, than watching a sleeping child.
(THIS SONG IS EXTREMELY HEART FELT AND BLESSED.)

"ElGaucho"...
Timeless treasure in compl improv "Wayne Shorter, who else.

""Primera Oracion"
This illustrates the master percussionist "Chembo" Conrniel with drum language that is thousands of years old. This is a pure gold.

"The Prayer of Jabez"
Inspired (truly) by the biblical passage foun in Chronicles 4:9-10
which addresses issues of pain, turst and hope...how God and his promises will see you through.
Wow! ))

Last and not least...over 8 minutes of hammmma time...and aptely titled...
"A LOVE SURPREME"
This Cd ends with a Coltrane classic. We all know of the spiritual element in Coltrane's music that warms the soul and leads you to a place of spiritual awareness.
RAY STARTS THIS OFF WITH THE GREATEST TRUMPET VOICING ever to grace this world...DENSE, POWERFUL...INTENT. WITH INTENSITY!.

Members of the Sextet are;
Ray on trumpet
Bobby Portcelli-sax
Igor Atalita-piano
Wille Martinez-drums
Wilson "Chembo" Corniel: congas
