Every couple of months there is a thread about Monette and pricing.

It is the same thing over and over again.

Monette too high; Monette worth it because I have one : get a Kanstul.

If you did a search this would probably come up 50 times or more.

If that's not bad enough, people here will trash Monette and then I see the same people on another site saying how great Monette is.

Do they just say that stuff to go along?
Don't they have a real opinion?

How can I believe the stuff I'm reading when I need help?

There are always haters out there. Whenever the subject is about something that is unattainable by someone, be it they are too poor or cannot rationalize the expence, jealousy kicks in. I have always liked Monettes, I like the way they play and the way they sound. My only caveat about the sound is that it cannot be used for everything. If I were a soloist I would have no qualms about getting one, but not with what I do now.

I feel your pain.

This is part of human nature, IMHO.

The same thing type of thing happens for Bach, Zeus, posts by John... (I'm not trying to hijack your thread)

In the case of Monette I think some of it is also an unconscious effort to convince themselves they won't miss never playing one.

Enjoy the fact that you have found the horn that works for you.

My horn doesn't do the work . . . I'm the one that does the work. And my 1940 Olds Super minimizes that amount of work like no horn I've ever played. That's why my horn is the greatest horn ever made.

[Guess I told them, eh?]

I think the issue with Monette in general is in part due to the fact that one is "required" to use Dave's mouthpieces with his horns. I don't use Monette equipment, but I've been fortunate enough to play several of his horns (XLT Prana, C993, B997). They really are the best trumpets in the world, but I'm sure as hell not going to start playing Dave's mouthpieces so that I can play his horns.

Oh...and his prices have gone way past the line of extortion. But then again, so have Damler's. The cost of a Mercedes is ridiculous, it's just a car....but a great car at that. When you keep things in perspective, trumpets are like cars. They all do the same thing, but some are built and designed better, and the price reflects that.

My point exactly, if the horn doesn't work for you, even if it is the greatest horn ever made, you have the wrong horn.

If you would like to discuss it privately, that is fine.
