Hello,
I recently needed to transpose this trumpet part written for trumpet in E (?) About half way through, the 1st trumpet has an Eb triplet where it jumps and octave on the second and third note. I listened to a recording of this song where the trumpet, rather than going up the octave, stayed on the same note. But I have been told by others to play it as written. Which way is correct?

Thanks,
Matt Hoffner

I'd say to go ahead and read the ink. Consult a score, for the discrepencies you heard could be printing errors, and check out a few other recordings, as it may have been a mistake or a alteration made in the music by the trumpeter and or conductor of the recording you have.

By all means, if you still have a question at the first rehearsal, go ahead and have a pow-wow with the conductor to discuss the matter.

Have fun, it's a great opera!
