Anybody know who played trumpet for Bobby Sherman?
Particularly on "Julie Do You Love Me" (heard that on the radio the other day and the trumpeter was rock solid)

Hi Brian,

You peaked my curiosity with this. I found this on Jerry Scheff. He also mentions playing with Hal Blaine, one of our musical brothers from Western Massachusetts. These guys rarely were given album credits, but played a lot of this stuff.

Isn't Bobby Sherman an uncle of Carl Saunders?

It was a trumpet player named Lloyd Michaels. Monster player from NY, I believe. He was the lead player/road manager for Buddy Rich's big band for a couple of years until they had a major falling out!

I remember reading that Dave Pell was his uncle.

I saw a 'where are they now' type program a few years ago. Bobby Sherman is a cop somewhere in SoCal.

Thanks, Butch!
Lloyd Michaels ... I'll look for that name on future CD purchases!

If you're talking about the same person I'm thinking of, Lloyd Michels also played lead for the band on the old Merv Griffin TV show that featured Jack Sheldon in the section (where the latter was given some playing and singing opportunities). His name was spelled Michels (though pronounced as Michaels). My cousin used to take the train into NYC for lessons with Lloyd and claims he was an incredible teacher. I don't believe Lloyd is actively playing anymore.

I believe Lloyd Michels was also on the Quincy Jones Walking In Space album from the early 1970's (?)

Bobby Sherwood was a Capitol recording artist during the '50s. Played trumpet and guitar.

I heard Loyd many years ago with Buddy Rich. He was rock solid as a lead player. I got a chance to meet and talk with him for about 10 minutes. He seemed to be a pretty nice guy. I remember his high A in the West Side Story Medley made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
Sadly, Loyd passed away in 2014. I recall reading an article about his passing. I don't believe the article mentioned what he died from.
Bobby Sherman became a paramedic and also a reserve police officer in Los Angeles.
