Not me gentlemen! Takes a little more to scare me off!! Just listened to the audio clips and Andrea is truly a formidable player and the ensembles seem to have a great grasp of clave'. If the opportunity presents, I'll make it a point to see him if he is ever visits the U.S. in the Chicagoland Area! Thanks for "turning me on" to such an outstanding player! |

HI Liad,
I've owned his "Mattia's Walk" now for a couple years. He has a very bright tone, very "liquid" in nature. PLays effortlessly in the upper registers. Almost shrill at times for my tastes. The music has a distinctly Latin feel to it. There are a couple slow numbers when he climbs back down from the ultra-altissimo register and plays sweetly.
I can't listen to it too much because it has almost an edge to it that makes me a little nervous. If there was any American player I would equate him to it would be Phil Driscoll.
Please do not misconstrue my words to be critical of Andrea. He is a heckuva player. I'd just prefer a little less high work from him because his mid range stuff is great too.
Just my 2 cents

Hi Bill,
Your analysis is correct and here is what Andrea said about that.
"I am a little disappointed about the sound of my trumpet in my first cd,
"Mattia's Walk & Tribute To Maynard Ferguson" because the sound engineer
made it too...penetrating. I had only a few days available for recording
and mixing it, so that has been the result."
"My following cd, "Ricordo di Napoli" has a beautiful sound of trumpet. I
like it, perhaps because the sound engineer was different and more
expert, and i remembered the mistake of the first recording."
Has anyone heard the Ricordo di Napoli CD? I would like to get them both. |

Ok. You Eurobrass have posted this topic on the TPO too.
I reply as there:
This guy sounds good: half like Sandoval, half like the Boss (Maynard). I appreciate his mastery but i am not mad about his improvisation style...
Anyway i must take off my hat to him, his range is superb. |

...and i reply as on the TPO:
Well, he is quiet known primarily for his lead and screaming trumpet work, but i think that he is a good soloist too. He is not like Miles, or Clifford or Tom Harrell, but on the flugel (let's listen to the ballads on his cd) he is good too... |

I'd still like to get both his CD's but I'm not putting a credit card number out there so until it shows up in a local Tower Records etc. I'm of of luck. |
