If you get tired of the cold and snow next March, why not make a trip to Tempe, Arizona for the 100th birthday celebration concert for Rafael Mendez?

Arizona State University will host a concert on Wednesday, March 8 (7:30 pm at Gammage Auditorium) featuring the ASU Symphony Orchestra with trumpet soloists Allen Vizzutti, Jens Lindemann, and David Hickman.

Several Mendez solos and trios will be performed. The ASU Trumpet Ensemble will perform three numbers, two of which will be Mendez pieces arranged by Hickman. The orchestra will play a piece by Mendez that was composed for orchestra alone, too. The concert is FREE!

On March 9, Lindemann will present a free clinic from 9:40 - 11:30 am in the Katzin Auditorium of the Music Building. Then, from 12:40 - 2:30 pm in the same room, Vizzutti will present a free clinic.

The twin sons of Mendez, Drs. Robert and Rafael, Jr., will attend the concert. It would be a great opportunity to meet them and tell them how much Rafael, Sr. means to you.

The ASU campus is about a ten minute cab ride from the Phoenix airport. Plenty of nearby hotels, too.

Naturally, you will want to visit the Rafael Mendez Library while you are here!!!

These two days will be a ton of fun!!!

DH

By "next March" do you mean, like, a couple weeks from now....or a year and a couple weeks from now?
