Next year for my required senior experience I plan on presenting a recital entitled "A Tribute To Mendez," and am starting my search now for musical arrangements, since I know how hard they've been to find in the past (They also take a ton of time to master so better start early!).

The pieces I've been unable to find so far are Samba Gitana, Tico-Tico, Yuba, and Dark Eyes. For accompaniment I'd prefer piano since they're the easiest to get a hold of, but I don't really care. I've never seen these songs anywhere, so I'll take whatever I can get.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

Chris:

Carl Fischer published Samba Gitana and Dark Eyes, but I doubt they are now available.

Yuba was never published, and the Mendez Library doesn't have any of his music for it.

I am preparing (as we speak) authorized publications of 15 Mendez works (10 solos and 5 trios) that were never published through Carl Fischer. So, Hickman Music Editions will release MOTO PERPETUO and the trio KIKO within the next month or so. Next in line are SEVILLIA, TICO-TICO, and DANCE OF THE HOURS.

I will post the news as each piece is available.

I've been looking for a copy of sheetmusic for Bullfighter's Prayer (Plegaria Taurina). I've contacted Carl Fischer and they used to publish it, but don't any more. They did say I could get permission to copy it. Let me know if anyone has a copy I can copy.

That's awesome. I'm looking forward to the trios, especially.
You should put your website address (where your publications & products can be purchased) in your TH Profile. Would sure make for some easy shopping....lol
Thanks again,

HME is one of the ads that appears frequently at the top of TH pages - www.hickmanmusiceditions.com - a truly superb site, with some of the best service you will find on the internet (trust me - I have purchased most of the catalogue )

If you are interested in Mendez, as well as the music you NEED to obtain Magnificent Mendez - a superb book (and I have only had mine for a couple of days - once it is finished there will be a proper review).

can you make copies of this accomp. or perhaps tell me where I can get the trios book? I have never heard of this book. I have the mendez solo book but not the trios. a good friend of mine gave me the trumpet parts but not the accompaniment. If its not a problem or illegal I'd like to hit you up for the piano part.
thanks

Where could I find a copy of La Virgen de la Macarena, and how true is to the original recording?

I've got the Virgen de la macarena, it is the same arrangement as he plays on the "trumpet virtuosity of mendez" not the recording from "mendez in madrid". it is pretty right on!

Thanks Mateo. Is this a currently available publication and if so who is the publisher?

You can order La Virgen from windmusicplus.com, here's a link: http://windmusicplus.safeshopper.com/1924/3695.htm?341
That's where I purchased my copy, and like Mateo says, it's just like the recorded version on the Trumpet Virtuosity album (the only difference is on the album he likes to add extra notes to some of those 32nd runs on the first really fast section, guess it wasn't fast enough for him as written).

Band and orchestra sets are available for several Mendez solos arranged by Charles Koff. Koff is dead now, but his daughter is selling the remaining copies.

I believe that the following pieces are available through Wendy Nash at:

Mother Lode Music
PO Box 110
Jamestown, CA 95327

209-984-0610 - phone
209-984-0681 - fax

MLMusic@worryfree.web.com

FLIGHT OF THE BUMBLE BEE
LA VIRGEN DE LA MACARENA
CZARDAS (MONTI)
FAREWELL, MY GRANADA
SPINNING SONG
MENDELSSOHN CONCERTO

If you are still looking for the Bullfighters Prayer, send me a PM. I think I have a copy of it.

Czardas is my personal Mendez favorite, with piano or orchestra.
