Any thoughts on some stand out jazz trumpet CD's of 2001? My vote would be "Power Source" by Ryan Kisor.

Yeah, brenter's correct, Kisor stuff is great. Also, for all serious jazz trumpet fans a must have is Jim Rotundi's "Reverence". This cat can out bop Freddie. Also, two other bop guys to watch out for include John Swana and Joe Magnarelli. These players are serious bebopers who can swing the butts off.

It is GREAT to see the names Kisor, Rotundi and Magnarelli on this list. I got their albums and they stay in my CD changer.

My favorite would have to be "How Passion Falls" by Irvin Mayfield. Not only does he light it up with his playing, all the compositions are originals by him. The band as a whole communicates very well and no one half steps. Excellent work.

But it is soooo hard to vote for just one album... I'd like to throw in "Tribute to the Trumpet Masters" by Brian Lynch AND "Sharp Nine Class of 2001" with Jeremy Pelt on trumpet.

We won't even get into re-issues!

Yeah, Rotundi is great!! I picked up all of his CD's that I know of this last summer, and got to meet the guy. He is really great, and a very unassuming person from what I could tell.
