"Bewitched" from "Presenting Rafael Mendez." Sappy, yes. Authentic jazz, no. And as far as difficulty it doesn't come anywhere near his more technical displays. But there's something magnificent about Mendez' playing on this tune. Such tone, such control.
listening to it right now...

'One Fine Day' from the Singing Trumpet. He sings it, rather than plays it. When I was a young pup, I dismissed it as sappy and never listened to it. As I got older, now it is my favorite ballad from Mendez. |

there are so many, like Romanza, the russian donkey, oh yes my all time favorite is musette (spelling?) from presenting rafael mendez album! I played it in HS for contest and didn't come close to hitting the high C's at the end the way he does in the recording. |
