Even if I've viewed all the threads in a forum, the forum will not lose it's yellow indicator that there are unread posts unless I click "mark all topics read"
TH is setup this way on purpose?

It's probably because you are using your browser's back button. If you clicked on the Forum Index link, they would go blue. |

I get the same problem - and I don't use the back button, I use the forum buttons. |

When I press the forum button, my hair turns pink. When I press the browser back button, it simply falls out. In neither case do my yellow indicators change. Could this be a tongue level or a mouthpiece issue?

According to the sysadmin, when some changes/updates were made fairly recently (month or two?), that was one thing which changed (the forums are no longer automatically marked "read' when you've read all posts). Now, you must click on the "mark all topics/forums read" button(s), or log out, to get them marked as read. I find it best to mark each forum as I wade (errr, anxiously and happily read) through them. And keep track of the time stamps...
