Hey ANA, I take it that you've gotten the Committee back???? Picts?
Ya the Committee's sound is one of a kind, so chocolaty, smooth, caramelized...
TH member "SupportLiveJazz" said it best, and so poetically too:
"There is no horn on the planet that sounds the same as a vintage Committee. Combination of smoke, shadows and dusk." _________________ Philippians 1:6 |

Monette 935
Holton C-150
Holton C-150 in original Leblanc case (factory modified clarinet case)
I purchased my Monette 935 new in about 1993. It was one of the very first ones made. As a matter of fact, the 900 series instruments did not exist when I first ordered the horn. I actually ordered an STC-7 trumpet. The 935 turned out to be even better, so that is what I eventually bought. The horn, while 4+ pounds in weight, plays like a dream and I wish my back would allow me to play it more!
The Holton C-150 is one of my latest "finds". The C-150's were very limited production pocket cornets and were among the smallest ever made. They were expensive to buy and are no longer in production. Mine may be one-of-a-kind in that while it has C-150 ("C" for cornet) engraved on the mouthpiece receiver, it is actually a pocket TRUMPET that was custom-made for the late, great jazz and recording artist Don Ellis of 4 valve, quarter-tone trumpet fame. I purchased the little trumpet from Don's sister, who as it turns out, lives only an hour or so from me. She is a very nice lady who ended up with the trumpet after her brother's death in 1977. Along with the trumpet came a letter from Don's dad to the Holton company regarding the trumpet which was, for whatever reason, never sent. Don's sister also gave me a nice letter verifying her brother's ownership of the horn. Being a long time Don Ellis fan, I treasure this little pocket trumpet and feel blessed to own it. The fact that it plays great and is a very desirable instrument in its own right just adds to the fun.
Regards

Well, I looked at both horns tonight and the Lehnert has more straight lines and dots than the Bach engraving has. Some of the cuts are deeper, too, but the Lehnert bell's thicker than the Bach. Both have zig-zag engraving also, and the floral stuff is very similar on both horns. _________________ "Brass bands are all very well in their place - outdoors and several miles away ." - Sir Thomas Beecham |

Stylish cornet! Is that a trigger hiding back there? I love the round water key joints! |
Yep! It's a trigger alright. Oddly enough, there is practically zero information on these horns. I like my Sov. much better playability-wise, but you're right, it does look good!

Not sure who you were referring to, but mine are all players. In fact, I'm going to be taking the Committee over to Charlie Melk in a few hours to have him look at an issue I'm having with it!
Here's another shot of the Committee (I think that's the sign of red rot on the valve block Anyone know what can be done with it?). Click to enlarge both photos.
...And one of my Besson 928...

I would say they are, but the fun is playing them. Some of the older ones are more fun to look at but some of these vintage horns play like nothing made these days. _________________ "There is no necessity for deadly strife" A. Lincoln 1860
