I'm amazed that this video clip is available on you tube. I only heard about the story but now I can see and hear Mendez telling the story

That is taken from a 3 hour home video done by Malcolm McNab in Rafael's home shortly before Mendez died. If I remember correctly, Chuck Findley and Al Vizzutti were there as well.

is there any way to get the entire thing? or atleast more of it. Those two videos are only about 9 minutes long... if it was three hours, i would surely love to see it.

The video belongs to Malcolm. He gave a copy of it to Mendez, but the Rafael Mendez Library is not allowed to copy it.

Summit Records and I have discussed the idea of a Mendez DVD made up of portions of several home videos, McNab's 3 hour video, a few television appearances, etc. plus still photos and live recordings in the RML. We are not sure if there is enough sales interest to warrant the work and expense needed to legally produce such a DVD. What do you think?

I would certainly buy it.
We have his recordings, but not enough on the man himself. He gave
back so much to the music world and a tribute like this should be in every
trumpeter's video library. (Not to mention every brass player's library!)

I would most definitely purchase this DVD.

Surely the interest of trumpet professors at universities across the world would be enough revenue to warrant such DVD. Then you have your professional players and students that would buy it.

There must be a mendez group out there looking for all his material, I was also glad to see youtube had so many of his performances, even in the movies, I heard him play several times live with his sons. The book they wrote about him was very interesting, talking about him as a boy in Mexico. walt

thanks for the reply, I will have the isbn number and publisher posted today so you know where to find the Mendez book. There is a student here at my College that bought a Mendez model new in 1965 and just started playing it again this year the horn is in fantastic shape, as a kid after seeing Mendez I bought a "Super" and an "Opera" they had their own sound.
