Not to hijack too hard... but are those Facets merely straight mutes that I would be terrified to bump/drop (i.e. use), or do they actually supply some unique timbre?

The "official" tread with comments from Facet mute users, like me, is at http://www.trumpetherald.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=98551. It's up to three pages now.

I'm really happy with mine and have a couple of discussions of my experience on that thread. Quickly, they seem to be quite substantial and I am not being extra careful with them; and my three are light, medium and heavy weight and offer three different timbre, none of which are nasal.

OK, I'll "play" . . .

My 2002 gold plated Wild Thing short cornet . . . with the old lettering on the bell before Flip developed the new logo.

Keep 'em coming, everyone. Some very nice cornets so far. Tom, I know you have a beautiful Boston, too, so I'll be looking for that picture.

Here's another one of mine...an 1870 Henry Lehnert side action rotary valve cornet, solid German silver.

This is a 1912 CONN long cornet, the earliest ancestor of the infamous 28A. The serial number suggests a build date of mid April 1912, just about the time the Titanic went to the bottom.

This horn is presently at Green's Buffing in Elkhart being restored to its former glory, a birthday gift from me to it as it begins its second century. He's had it since July 23 so hopefully its coming home soon. I'll post pics here as soon as possible.

Thread's a little slow. Here's a circa 1900 J.W. Pepper I used to own - sold it before I got a decent digital camera...

EasyPlay - my guess is early 30s - know very little, but it is an easy to play horn.

Love the look of this one. There are a few hanging around on Ebay, are they worth the risk?

Yamaha 2330 that I just sold this week...

If we get enough variety on this thread, it will be a good reference for trumpet players who decide they want a cornet - it might even make them want one after looking, even if they hadn't thought of it before!

Just to get in touch with our feminine sides, right? Personally, I'd rather get in touch with my wife's feminine sides.

Na, nothing feminine about cornets. I play in a brass band and the cornet section can knock your socks off...in a restrained, British sort of way, of course...

I guess now's a good time for "The Letter".

I'm hoping to be able to post pics soon enough of the Olds. Just found out at rehearsal tonight that another guy in the section just got back an Olds studio from getting the valves redone, and guess who did the work? Yeah, Charlie. So, what are the odds that two people sitting in the same band would have horns at Charlie, several thousand miles away at the same time? Pretty low I'm guessing, but either way, it's a sign that things are moving, maybe Anderson's is getting caught up. <fingers crossed>
