I love this little 1929 Olds....Plays like a dream, looks real.....

Love the look of this one. There are a few hanging around on Ebay, are they worth the risk?

I'm getting that leadpipe fixed this week. I took this on a 2 week vacation once.... FUN!
Give one a whirl!

1925 80A

This is my only other cornet, but she's a beauty, complete kit and all.

I am waiting for this 1920 10A Vocal cornet to be delivered sometime soon. It needs some TLC and it's going to get it! Anyone ever play one of these?

Not to hijack too hard... but are those Facets merely straight mutes that I would be terrified to bump/drop (i.e. use), or do they actually supply some unique timbre?

timbre or timber?

Also, the Clarke letter is hilarious. It's funny how everything progresses and changes.

Nice thread!

This is nice;...a 'Brown' echo about 130 years old. Brown of Kennington S. London had a strong business including a lot of sales to the guards bands in London and the Royal Artillery band and orch. just up th eroad in Woolwich, also trumpets for orchestras etc. Brown models still turn up from time to time in the London area, although the company is long gone.

This is my original model (round stamp) B&H Sovereign made in 1982 and in every day use. This is something of a 'benchmark' for serious cornet design and has served as the starting point for numerous other instruments by several makers, however, it is rarely surpassed,...the Eclipse was developed from this and is slightly better in performance. Like all iconic equipement it's not perfect,...note the vicious 'cockspur' waterkeys which can ruin solo work by catching all too easily in your clothing as you come back in. Triggers were non optimised too.....but, it's really the best that there is with few exceptions.

The "Coppertone name/theme is a hoot! Pretty cool.

Very nice cornets, Mr. Stevenson. You don't see too many vintage echo cornets.

Here's another horn from me.This time, it's a 1970 Conn 76A Connquest model. Same unique wrap as the Olds Recording cornet, .485 bore.

I'm sure you have all seen my ads by now but here is my Palmer CP-4 cornet, built by Curtis Palmer, in raw brass. It sure is a pretty thing; I wish that I could afford to keep it.

I have a nice 12A that I'll try to photograph and post soon.

Seeing that Bob Stevenson posted his Sovereign made a few years after mine (posted first!!) , I thought I'd mention that there is nothing like playing one. I can understand why his is a daily player.

I have other (duh) cornets, but will never part with the B&H 921. It is special. It is not my easiest player - a Blackburn nabs that claim, and not my best sounding - a WT American Long Cornet gets the nod there. But I imagine that only the WT posted by Tom would get me to loosen my grip on the Boosey. My guess is it is a configuration thing.

Yep, that is a microtuner. I have one on my King Master also. Blessing made that same model as a York Custom, that OLDLOU has, not too long before I saw this one. I had played his and liked the sound, etc
I got this one very cheaply. I did purchase a 36A a couple of months ago, but there was something wrong, maybe with leakage. Lou tested it out, but we couldn't find the root cause of the poor sound. I send it back and got a full refund, then bought the Blessing when it turned up, unopposed.

Here's a circa 1865 Stratton OTS (over the shoulder) cornet I sometimes play for historical events, but it doesn't belong to me.

Here I am playing it before my hair turned gray...

Speaking of horns that don't belong to me, here's a pic of some of the bell front cornets owned by the head of our CW band (my Lehnert is in there, too). Most play just barely OK by modern standards...

Cornet by Douglas and Sons, Glasgow, c1887:

Played this last night in the band and it was not hugely different sounding to my Maestro, just a bit less volume.

Some fantastic looking horns in this thread . . . my compliments to their owners!

Here's my best-looking one, a King Master -- after doing much research, it was determined to be circa 1908:

This horn plays as beautiful as it looks.
