It could be if it's stuffy... Or perhaps, improved. |

Unless you’ve PLAYED many of the “new” trumpets, I’m not sure you have a realistic frame of reference here. Sure, your Bach might in fact play great, but if it’s “stuffy” it would not be my first choice.

This post reminds me of a Columbo episode.
Columbo is talking to a nun. He proudly states "I have owned this overcoat for seven years."
The nun sympathetically replies "You poor man."
A question for formerpro, if it is stuffy, why do you think it "cannot be beat"? It would seem that something that plays the same, except for the stuffy part, would beat it.
While the provenance of formerpro is yet to be proved, if you check out his first three posts, they are kind of fly by statements of opinion. Almost like some he is getting set up for the marketplace.
I hope not, since we can always use more variety to the forum. Perhaps the reply to my questions will help. |

I read "stuffy" to describe the horn appearance or something, not the actual playing characteristic of the horn. Or maybe he is mocking others that refer to a particular model as stuffy. |

You could very well be right, but I have never heard stuffy to apply to trumpet appearance. |

Read LittleRusty’s third paragraph.
Hey, if that’s incorrect, I’ll be first in line to apologize to the new member here.

Do you think the new guy is doing anything besides racking up 5 posts so he can sell merchandise in the Marketplace? I'm surprised anyone continued this thread.
Time will tell. |

Who cares? I think that's a dumb policy anyway. Maybe he's a civilian who happens to have a gem of a trumpet to sell? |

Probably going to be the following:

My first inclination is generally to give someone the benefit of the doubt. But since I haven't paid as much attention to the marketplace or techniques used by people to meet its requirements as some of you have, the chances of you being right about this are probably pretty good. _________________ WayneG

Except that formerpro only has three posts. Most marketplace wannabes normally do five quickly.
That is why I asked for more details on his strad. |

Being from the Midwest, this reminds me of story my Dad told about a guy who had this old, beat up cowboy hat that he was still obviously proud of.
"It's a Resistol!" he'd proudly proclaim. (Resistol hats are expensive and well made)
Someone finally replied, "It looks like it has 'resisted' about all it can." _________________ Patrick Gleason

Since I have been a pro player for 51+years, and I have taught everything from kinder to coll., I think I am WELL qualified to comment the 'stuffiness" of a MT.Vernon large bore.{a horn I have owned since 1960} I Do have other trumpets that play well, but none come close to playing as well as that STUFFY BLOWING OLD BACH!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

So who are you exactly? 51 years as a working pro - were you a college professor? A session player? Did you do Broadway shows? Just curious. _________________ Patrick Gleason

I agree
I don't know why some guys on TH are so self-righteous
in their indignation
about the five post rule for the marketplace.
If indeed, that is what former pro is doing,
then he is following the requirements
that were set up by TH.
If they are so uptight about it, why don't
they change the rule to 100 posts. |
