Guys CHeck this out in a million years I would never have guessed this is real had I not seen it myself online! Who would have thought???? This beat the Aunt Farm by far. I suspect the parts are low grade but what a cool gift to get a kid intersted in music beyond just playing!

OK- That one's too good to pass up- someone ask Ron Burgundy if Aunt Peg might be there...

DIY has never worked for me. As a kid I made an orange crate out of a canoe. The rest of the scouts said I didn't follow the directions right.

I personally wouldn't order from an overseas company that doesn't disclose its physical address or at least a location. I believe this company is operated by Hanson Music out of West Yorkshire, Eng. Why that isn't presented on this particular site is beyond me and a bit suspect.

Are you going to order a kit, John?

You need to add an exclamation point and .html

The clickable link is not all inclusive. The "!" at the end throws it off. I can't seem to get it to include it or the ".html" after it, which breaks it.

http://trumpetsdirect.com/trumpetsdirect.com/build%20your%20own%20trumpet%20kits!.html

Just highlight the both lines, copy, and put it in your browser.

My hovercraft with a vacuum cleaner engine project never really got off the ground.

Neither did my "Convert your Kirby Vacuum into a Semi-automatic Rifle" kit either! Oh well. Meantime, try this

I bought the kit to turn my electric edger into margarita maker.

It worked really well on the first 4 margaritas. I don't remember how number 5 went.

I want to see the horn the good Capt builds. Heck, I want to see the horn any member builds with that kit.

Buy me the kit:D

Seriously though, I guarantee the parts wont be up to my standard and I will end up making most of them. If I had to guess these kits are from one of the many "instrument mills" in the pacific rim.

I had not thought that far along Dave! Very True on every thing you said! Oops! LOL I was just so impressed that anyone would think some5thing like that up is all!

Hey people work on their own plumping and their homes all the time and to be honest that scares me a lot more then someone goofing up their trumpet! Same thing goes for car's! I was trained to be a Mechanic long before I decided to go back to school and get a College degree. You would not believe the shoddy work I have seen done to car's by owners and other Mechanics and unlike a trumpet that can only offend the audience's ear's with not so nice sounds a botched break job can kill people!!! Yet their is a huge DIY market for automotive things and for home building etc...... Only in the trumpet world is the idea of DIY looked down upon as some how unattainable and too much like mysticism and voodoo for the average person to do!

So I was just very happy to see someone actually encouraging people to try their hand at putting together a TSO! Imagine learning to install a leadpipe it would pay for itself the first time you wanted to change your on a good trumpet having practiced on some piece of junk. Generally Mechanics in training do not work on customer vehicles until they have some trigger time on junker's, their own vehicles, shop vehicles, staff vehicles etc....... No one learns to do body work on a brand new Rolls Royce!LOL

I think building the kit would be a great way for folks to learn just how valuable a skilled brass repair technician really is! It actually takes hours and hours and hours for the average person to learn the soldering skills needed to assemble copper plumbing fittings which still would fall short of those needed on a trumpet.

Is it safe to say that both projects sucked?

There is, or used to be, a project, guided by the tech, that allowed people to make their own natural/Baroque trumpets and I don't believe it was a joke. I can't find the info any longer, someone else might have it. That might be a better first start for most people, plus you'd have the help of a pro and his equipment.

Craig,

Robert Barclay is the name you're looking for.

He also co-wrote a book/guide on the subject:
