People can read your five posts, notice that you're just doing it to list something for sale, and then ignore your item.

The point is to encourage participation, not just provide another free place for a random scammer to stop by.

Indeed. Pretty simple.

It's sort of similar to the Ebay Feedback system.

Five posts, a waiting period, and a registry entry filter out automated mischief.

You might pay attention to the earlier comments. Most of the regulars here pretty much ignore anything for sale by someone that just puts up 5 quick useless, misleading, or "me too" posts and then disappears.

I for one won't even consider buying someone that just drops 5 bombs on random threads so they can sell something.

I'm also wondering about the logic of the five posts. I bought a new horn (Van Laar) at the ITG conference and want to sell my Bach 37 and Kanstul 1502. The lead trumpet in my band recommended Trumpet Herald as a good place to do that. I had not awareness of this group but can see it is a valuable resource for trumpet players. But it seems like a bit of a game to go through having to do 5 posts to qualify to sell a horn. Everyone hates scammers but wondering if a more comprehensive way to validate your identity, such as submitting a driver's license that could be verified, would be a more effective alternative?

The site is does not have paid staff to handle its business. So the five posts is a very reasonable, low cost way to help filter out the riff raff.

I always wonder about people who think making five meaningful posts is too hard or time consuming.

Simply introducing yourself and describing why you liked the item you plan to sell is a quick two posts.

I'm trying to get the 5 post to post buying ads on here, I'm more active on the TMaster site anyways. This seems to b a better site for selling and buying.

This is totally reasonable and def a good thing to real buyers and real sellers.
But still using PayPal's "pay for goods or services" option is the base line to me, which I believe is at least somehow securer.

This thread provides the perfect place for people to get their fifth! Most of the participants have fewer than ten posts!!

I don't have a problem with the 5 post rule but I am not one to spend a lot of time on any forum. I joined some time ago but as you can see I don't do a lot of posting. Several years ago I purchased a beautiful Kanstul 1525 4 valve Flugel from a well respected professional member here. I have always enjoyed perusing the marketplace but since I didn't have anything to sell, I did not, until today, set up my registry and start posting. I have had some email contact with the person I purchased from but nothing on the board here.

I am considering selling the Kanstul in the near future so plan to get acquainted here on the forum, just in case I decide to sell. I am more of a comeback player and thought I might have better success on the flugel but have ended up not playing it much. When I do play for the local university graduation each year, I have the ability to borrow one. So, decisions, decisions. lol.

I posted new ads last night for items I am trying to sell, however this morning they are not there and the old ads are back! I know it wasn't a fever dream because people emailed me based on the news ads asking questions.. what up?
