Ahhh, so that's where it ended up...
Musik Gillhaus in Freiburg, Germany (fantastic shop, btw) once offered that trumpet to me. They had it as demo in their shop and were willing to send it to me for trial, but at the time I didn't have the "small-change" for it so I had to let it go (for which I felt really bad).
A one-off and a very beautiful instrument indeed.
I'm glad that George has it now. That way it kind of stays in the family.

Maarten, are you talking about the Zirnbauer Piccolo? I tried several at Bernhard's House. The one I took home was one we ended up putting together on the spot. It is an amazing instrument, but there are several out there Im going back for a G piccolo. _________________ Schagerl "Gansch" Vienna Trumpet Schagerl "Gansch" Horsdorf Heavy

Maybe it was the first one then.
I'm sure the Gillhaus people said at least something like that to me (2 years ago or so).
Great news that Zirnbauer has made a couple of them!

It is the most amazing picc I have ever played. I got mine last year when I went to the Messe.... a side trip to Bernhard's. It was a really good time. I could hang out there for a week! _________________ Schagerl "Gansch" Vienna Trumpet Schagerl "Gansch" Horsdorf Heavy

I just tried one. In fact I have it here at home. I'm afraid to say that I'm extremely disappointed. The sound is not as nice as the sound of my Thein - it's rather nasal, I think - and neither is the intonation. I was really expecting something wonderful.
Too bad.

Really? What leadpipe are you using? I don't have that sensation at all. Just used it in a concert last week, and the conductor thought I was using my regular trumpet. He liked teh big sound, though at first he thought I was a little bright. But it blended well with a section of big trumpets.
This horn favours big (or rather deep mouthpieces with large backbores).
The Thein is a nice piccolo, but does not give me the range, or depth of the Zirnbauer. In the end, it could just be different horns for different folks. Really sorry to hear about your experience though. _________________ Schagerl "Gansch" Vienna Trumpet Schagerl "Gansch" Horsdorf Heavy

In fact, I still like it so much, I ordered the G piccolo to go with it. _________________ Schagerl "Gansch" Vienna Trumpet Schagerl "Gansch" Horsdorf Heavy

The A-pipe is a Z15, the B-flat a Y14.

I use a a-Y21K and a B-X20.... I'll try and figure out the difference. As for mouthpiece I use a warburton (the top is a 10 but it has a deep cup) larger throat and a 12* backbore. The biggest they make I think. Jon Dante had a blow on this piccolo and it sounded huge, though he was playing up to top G on a Bach 1.
Again, might be different strokes for different folks. I took an afternoon picking out bell combos, and leadpipes.
Schilke, and Stomvi Piccolos back up on me too much. This picc allows me to play up to the G and beyond. So for me it's a keeper. _________________ Schagerl "Gansch" Vienna Trumpet Schagerl "Gansch" Horsdorf Heavy
