So, who's planning to go the ITG conference in Columbus GA in May? One of the bands I'm in, Olde Towne Brass, is playing on Saturday, May 26th at 11:00 at Legacy Hall. Come by and heckle me if you get the chance. _________________ "Brass bands are all very well in their place - outdoors and several miles away ." - Sir Thomas Beecham |

Wish that I could. It is about 400 miles or 7 hrs away from me. Not too far; not too close, either.

Yeah, it's a little over 200 miles for me, so not too bad this year. Drive down on Friday, spend the night, play Saturday morning, hit the road for home sometime that afternoon. _________________ "Brass bands are all very well in their place - outdoors and several miles away ." - Sir Thomas Beecham |

Wish that I could as this is very close to my hometown (Mom and Dad) and I've never been before. |

Was really hoping to get to go this year. It would have been cool to see and hear some of the other TH members in person.
But, my daughter is graduating, and it lands directly on top of the ITG timing.
I'll have to catch a different one, but I sincerely doubt even free trumpet giveaways could get me to go to Detroit. _________________ "Music is like candy, you throw the (w)rappers away." |

Detroit...! one of our sister hospitals is in Detroit. Maybe I'll be able to schedule some kind of work related visit during ITG and let corporate p/u the tab for airfare, hotel and rental car. Hmmmmm... _________________ "If you find a job you really like, you'll never work a day in your life".

ITG 2013 will be held in Grand Rapids not Detroit. Not sure where the Detroit rumor came from. |

I'll be there Thursday with the Georgia Brass Band, and I'll stick around to hear Joe Gransden's big band later in the evening.
After-hang anyone?

going for the whole thing. LONG drive from VA, but...I didn't make it last year, so I owe myself. Seems like the alternative lodgings (other than the main hotel, which has been sold-out) aren't all that great...noticed that many of them are several miles away across the river in another state.
But, anyway...it should be fun.

Same here Steve
This will be the first ITG I have missed in 10 years, but sadly the opportunity to conduct at the Royal Albert Halll doesn't come up too often, so I'm afraid that has taken priority (along with the rehearsals leading up to it).
Oh and Trent

I am sure that was meant tongue-in-cheek but I find the attitude of many ITG members in the US is that if the conference doesn't happpen in the US then they won't go - by not going to the "International" conferences you REALLY miss out (Australia was a BLAST!) |

Noooooooooooooooo Michael it will NOT be the same without you.
You will be sorely missed both by ITG as an organization and by me as an individual.
On the other hand the RAH gig is pretty cool-sounding! |

I have had a few requests for the wig to attend in my place, you will probably get a more sensible discussion from that |

The real question is, how much can the wig drink? _________________ Steve Thiel |

Update: My group, the Olde Towne Brass, will be playing a 20-30 minute concert at The National Civil War Naval Museum in Columbus, GA on Friday evening, May 25 at 7:30 PM. I hear they will be outfitting us in Civil War naval uniforms for the concert, so if you can't catch us at the ITG on Saturday, here's another chance to heckle... _________________ "Brass bands are all very well in their place - outdoors and several miles away ." - Sir Thomas Beecham |
