Has anybody tried this new gadget? Warburton A.T.V.

I've found the P.E.T.E. helpful, but I think I'll pass on this one unless it gets some rave reviews.

I've been doing the last exercise every other day and see my power and range increasing. The last exercise is the most physically intense thing I've ever done on the trumpet. It takes less than a minute. I sit down and do the short glissando up...right now it usually winds up being a double D or so...and slowly gliss down using all my air. Immediately after I have to put my head down between my legs or I get a very painful headrush...my whole body feels quite physically tired for a few minutes afterwards. Just thought I'd share my experiences so far. All the best, Lex.

This strikes you as a desirable outcome?

It does because I believe what is happening is that my aperture is learning to open up more in the extreme high register. Also, the total body exhaustion for a few minutes indicates to me that the whole body is getting involved in playing more and taking some off the chops.

How much dose it cost to get the bearings replaced on an atv? The left real wheel bearings on the atv needs to be replaced. How much will it cost?

65 bucks? And if you don't have a backbore - 95 bucks?
These have been around for years. You make them out of old mouthpieces. The one I've been using for years is a 7C. I just got one from Flip that used to be a 1C, a better size for me.
65 bucks - you could almost buy 2 NEW Bach mouthpieces to cut up for 65 bucks!

I've had the ATV for a couple of weeks now, and I'm really impressed.

Playing the trumpet/flugel is a hobby, I have my full time job, and young family, so I only get about 1-2 hours practice a night max.

I never got on with free buzzing, that seemed to create too much tension and would ruin my chops for that day. The ATV i's kind of a half-way-house between free buzzing and mouthpiece buzzing.

The first few days, yeah it's a killer by after a week, it just becomes routine. I also use it for warm ups now, to find the note center, similar to lead pipe warm ups.

On the first try, I could only play with the ATV from low C to about G (just top of the stave), and play with the horn up to above the stave Eb. Although now, I realise it wasn't centered.

I now gliss from low C to high C, keeping constant air support, if the volume or tone moves I can focus and work on that particular area, getting the entire exercise constant and smooth.

I then gliss to C#, D, and so on. When the tone stops, I back it off a bit, concentrating on the buzz noise.

Two weeks an I now can scale up to High G, and notes are really full, very pure, not fluffy tones like I used to.

Just my 2 cents.

Check Bobby Shew,s Web site. He has a cut out piece that is around a 3-5C size that sells for $55. I have had one for years and it suits the purpose just fine.
