Okay, here it is.... I got a reply back from someone who had Jason Harrelson modify his trumpet. He had a French Besson, large bore (.462) and this is what he had to say. This guy also has a Zeus trumpet and seems to like it, but I will post his email reply now and you can read it for yourself.

Hi, I actually bought two conversions. The first was a 964 triton
conversion. I don't remember seeing anymore of these auctioned recently. It looks a lot
like the 904 but has three fins on the bell. I just received the trumpet
today. Obviously I have not had a lot of time on it yet but my initial reaction is
that it does help the response on both ends of the scale.
I had a french besson,462 bore, modified. The horn is a lot heavier. I think
I need some time to get used to the totally different feel of the trumpet. I always like to get the advice of my trumpet instructor, he has a much
higher range and is better at evaluating the tonal quality. Recently I bought a Zeus Guanerius, it was very slightly used and I like it
very much. They are advertised on ebay occasionally by a dealer. When I let my
instructor ,who plays for the local symphony and we play together in a big
band, play the Zeus. His words were "this really sings in the upper register".
He thought the lower end was not quite as good. However he favorably compares
it to his 3000$ Blackburn.
Sorry for getting off the subject but I do like the zeus better than my
strad.
As far as the harrelson mod goes I think I will like it but I doubt I would
pay the retail price he is asking. The price I got it for on ebay seems fair.
You will have to give me some more time on it,and then I should be able to
give you a better evaluation.
I almost forgot ,the second mod I bought is a much more lightweight mod and
he doesn't expect to get to that till Oct-Nov time frame.
If you are anywhere near Reading, Pa you can certainly take a look at the
horn.
If you want I can write again in a few days after plying it some more.

There you have it. The very first impression of a Harrelson modified horn. I will email him again in a few days to get more input and then I will post it.

Are you selling your X3 on Ebay? Anyways, I bet this guy is somewhat happy but expected the mod to be a little better. Just my 2 cents.

He didn't say how much he paid for it, and I forgot to ask... I'll try and remember to ask when I email him back after he's had a couple days to really test out the new harrelson modification.

I suggest you try a B6 or b7 next to that b1 you are getting... even less air, but very freeblowing... sorry your x3 did not work out for you. guess the tighter backbore you tired on your moupice was not enough help? always wondering how this stuff works out....

If it was the Triton modification purchased on ebay he got it for 345.00. I was considering sending one of my Couesnons (30.00 on ebay) but gave up when it went over 200.00

This guy that joined our community band showed up with a similar looking horn, although he claims he has never heard of Harrelson. The thing weighs a ton. I asked, "okay now what are you going to do to even out your RIGHT arm bicept......"

I'll see the cat again Wednesday and try to learn more about it and see if I can take it for a ride around the block.

It's described as a "leadpipe sleeve." It appears that there's a mouthpiece receiver inside that copper pipe, so I assume it's just a copper pipe that surrounds the original leadpipe, creating a double-wall leadpipe, like a Selmer TT or Conn Vocabell.

A friend just pointed this out to me on your website so I joined to make a posting. The trumpet that is used in this photo on ebay is acutally mine. It is originally a Bach TR300 that was modified by Jason Harrelson. The leadpipe that is causing some of the interest is red brass and may look cut off in the photo but I can assure you that it is not. The 'sleeve' is solid over the original leadpipe.

Anyway I have been playing this horn for a while now and I happy to give a fair crit on the horn. I use a Monette STC-3 B6 in the horn and yes it is heavy(around 2.4Kg or 5 pounds), but that is what I wanted and I dont mind as my other Bb horn is a Bach Strad with the Stering Silver Plus bell (which I would compare the Harrelson horn to)so I am used to the heavy stuff and as I am primarly a cornet player tend to 'blow the ring-gear' out of lighter horns.

I am not a pro, but am experienced and currently play Associate Principal Cornet in Australias 2nd ranked brass band. Not a brag thing just to give you an idea of my background.

So if you are interested please feel free to ask anything about the horn and I will get back to you when I can - just remember I am in Australia so there is a fair old time difference (I can hear some people saying about half a century!).
