Just in case this site goes down.... Thanks to all of you that I've had the pleasure of meeting!

If you can make it to Mobile, Alabama on the 26th and 27th, I'll see ya there, at the Trumpetfest!

If not... God Bless!

Bruce

Does the Eclipse or Equinox have the removable bell feature (similar to Edwards)? If not, can that feature be included at an extra cost?

What is the wait time for an Equinox if one was ordered today?

Hi Bent,

I don't think that Leigh is currently making "detachable" bell horns but you'd have to ask either Bruce or Leigh directly. I had two different bells for my Eddie but now don't need a different bell to create a different sound. Please check out the brief and low-fi sound clips at http://mysite.verizon.net/vze6zcfx/.

Hope this helps,

Trent

Hey, Bent Trumpet!

The Eclipse trumpets tune at the back of the bell (bell bow) because that area was determined to have the least effect on the standing sound wave. To give you an example of that, I owned a Schilke X3, which I purchased in "used, and slightly-abused" condition. The bell bow had significant damage, but the trumpet played great. When it was repaired, I felt better, but the trumpet played the same.

Back to the tuning-slide on the Eclipse... It "acts" like a tuneable-bell, but because of the fixed bracing on the bell, you gain stability, and improved resonance. With the uninterrupted leadpipe on the Eclipse trumpets, the energy, or standing sound-wave is transmitted to the bell in a more efficient manner. The slotting and intonation are excellent, with uncanny flexibility. Normally, you would expect to give up one, to have the other, but that's what I feel the uninterrupted leadpipe does for the Eclipse trumpets. What this means to the player is more ability to control what happens on the player end of the trumpet, without the need to manipulate pitches. Coloring your sound is much easier, as Trent has stated above.

The Equinox design is a little different, in that the overall length of the trumpet is added back on the bell side of the horn, but it still tunes at the back of the trumpet. It also has an uninterrupted leadpipe, like all Eclipse trumpets. I can't imagine improving upon the design of such a great playing horn. In my opinion, you would do far better by choosing an additional mouthpiece that helps you to produce the sound that you desire. That way, you accomplish your goals, in a much more cost-effective manner. Please feel free to contact me for further information, regarding prices and production time. Thanks!

Thanks to all who responded to my questions.
Another somewhat related question about the Eclipse or Equinox. How do you clean the leadpipe with a snake/brush? Do you have to go in through the 3rd valve? I am assuming it is a continuous tube going into the 3rd valve.

That's how I clean the leadpipe, Bent! Take the third slide off and have a go at it!

Best,

Trent
