I have a Martin trumpet, serial number 102121. It is marked Martin Handcraft The New Master, Elkhart Ind on the nicely engraved bell. It is very well made with diamond shaped wear plates on top and bottom, front and back of the 1st and 3rd valve casings. Silver plated and gold washed bell interior. Here is my question. I have had the Dansant, Imperial and Committee Handcraft models, but this is the only The New Master model I have seen or heard of. Where does it fit in with the other early models in the Martin line. As it is in mint condition with the exception of the valve plating and fit, I intend to have the valves rebuilt. It's bell is similar in configuration to my Committee and similarly just about swallows my Harmon WahWah mute. Any info will be appreciated. Thanks. kpb

I have a New Master, too. It's S/N 96XXX, which makes it a bit older than yours. It's dent-free but the leadpipe has been patched and the valves are a mess. Plus, it's missing the middle lower cap. I'm thinking about having it restored but have a couple of other horns ahead of it at the moment.

Not sure where it fits in with the other Martins. I know that "Dansant" means "dancing" and have read that the horn was promoted as being good for the dance orchestras of the 20s and 30s.

Last I knew a friend of mine, Dave Johnson, now with Calicchio in Tulsa, OK was a bit of a Martin buff. The little we talked about Martins he seemed to know something of the Martin history. You can reach him on the Calicchio website.

*Dave sorry if you get loads of e-mails (ha ha)*

And .. you might try contacting the LeBlanc corporation. They produce LeBlanc, Holton, Martin (these new ones are very good Martins too!!) They might be able to help you.

Regards,

Michael

I have wondered why there is no Martin-Loyalist or Martin Central site as there is for Conn, Olds, Benge, Selmer and probably others. Perhaps a thred on TH requested site addresses for all the brand dedicated sites would be great. Meanwhile, with the impact that Martin made on Jazz trumpet, one might think that there would be a site for the Martin obcessed. kpb
