Hi
I've got a new to me cornet. I had it sent to try on approval a few days ago. After all the hassle of trying different mouthpiece sleeves to get the blow how I liked on the Sovereign, I decided that I was going to try my normal mouthpiece on this cornet, and nothing else.
When I first received it, I did my normal warm up and practise routine on it, and was initially pleased with its response and tone. My husband listening, commented on it having a big rich warm cornet tone in comparison to the more trumpet-like tone of my Bach 184ML. The valves are very good, the intonation is very good, and there is no issue with the high C or any other note.
Apart from the high C, I am very fond of my Bach 184ML, so this cornet had a lot to live up to. Initially slotting and the upper register seemed odd, but the more I play this cornet, the more I like it, and it is definitely a keeper.
After spending a year experimenting with mouthpieces, trying to get the Sovereign to play how I wanted, this cornet plays better out of the box so to speak, with my normal mouthpiece, and has a better sound and playability, so the Sovereign is going.
It is a shame, as I'm sure the Sovereign is a lovely cornet, and other people play them so well, but this is the second 928 I've had (this one is a Buffet Crampon one, the previous one was English made) and I've also had an older 927 with the shorter mouthpiece receiver and microbor valves, and there is something about them I just don't like.
Anyhow, I've packed my other cornets away for now, and am going to really get used to this cornet.
Take Care

Hi
I deliberately didn't mention the make and model. I don't know why. I'm half teasing, and half so pleased with my new cornet that I wanted to share, without maybe somebody having something negative to say about this make/model, as rather than being something exotic, it is just a run of the mill brass band cornet choice.
If you haven't already guessed, I'll post later.
All the best

Hi Dave
That Blue Zeus is smart isn't it? At one stage I liked the idea of the Taylor Orpheus, but never got to try one.
As a really obvious clue, my new cornet is the yellow brassed bell version in lacquer.
Take Care

Lou got me curious alright.
Being on the lookout for a new cornet myself, I wonder which one she is testing.
One of the more traditional brands like Yamaha, Smith&Watkins. Getzen or maybe even an other Besson.
Or one of the outsiders like Carol Brass, Jupiter, Eclipse, Adams, Schagerl. _________________ Trumpet : Yamaha YTR-9335CHS + Yamaha YTR-6335H

Hi wiemelen
I'll give you a couple of clues.
It isn't from one of higher class makers, so isn't an Eclipse, Adams, Schagerl or Taylor.
It is simply a used bog standard pro cornet, that I just happen to really like.
Take Care
