|
|
What would result if the lead-pipe set-up of a horn was so that the lead-pipe fit on the outside of the tuning slide (like the standard lead-pipe) but the other end of the tuning slide fit on the outside of the part leading to the valve block instead of on the inside like it does on standard lead-pipes? In other words, the complete opposite of a reversed lead-pipe?
Has this ever been tried?
Thanks in advance for any replies. _________________ Sima, Kanstul 1525 Flugel and Kanstul pocket trumpet. Olds Super |

Interesting question.
For clarification, you are talking about a tuning slide/crook that is male on the top and female on the bottom, right?
Not so much a new type of lead pipe, but a new type of tuning slide? |

Lots of Taylor trumpets have this design.

And when Taylor does it, what is the result? |

I think you'd have to ask Andy Taylor to get a meaningful answer. AFAIK none of his trumpet designs are closely based on other makers' instruments so it would be impossible to isolate the effect of the tuning slide setup when play testing a Taylor alongside anything else.

My Ferron C made by Selmer paris has that configuration, male upper leg and female lower leg of tuning slide with the bow tapering to match.
I believe only 10 were made in this design, the best, easiest and most in tune C I have played.

I have never seen a Taylor with this kind of reversed reverse
tuning slide stuff, and I am one of his dealers..... _________________ Nordlands

My bad, I knew there was something distinctive about the lower tuning slide leg on a lot of Taylor trumpets but I'd remembered it wrongly.
