I never really got to hear Bobby Hackett, Wild Bill and some of the others too much. What I heard of Bobby Hackett was really impressive.
Woody Shaw also played cornet on some of his late 70's recordings.

the above is true. regarding vache, he dosen't do it in public, but he is an accomplished modernist.

There are & have been so so many wonderful players who have been associated with what is considered "trad jazz"…. a couple of my favorites are Leroy Jones & the late Pat Halcox…..

Bix Beiderbecke
Louis Armstrong
Louis Panicho

Louis Armstrong is probably my favorite though.

I've always thought Bunk Johnson had a great trumpet sound.

"Traditiional" hasn't been defined yet, but if we were to try, wouldn't Satchmo's main influence have to be the definition?

I get to perform some of his stuff, on cornet no less ...

The term "trad" is far reaching.

One player stands on the mountaintop and points the way: Pops.

Down here on the ground there are dozens of great trad jazz players to listen to and admire. I'm currently listening to Jimmy McPartland and Wild Bill Davison. Youtube has them all.

So many to choose from. Louis of course would always be my number one. Someone who didn't get a deserved mention would be Don Goldie. His playing with Jack Teagarden was amazing.

Add the late Tom Saunders (cornet) to the list of greats.
Incredible cornetist and wonderful person.

Trumpet: If we're only going for "traditional" players, then Miles.
Cornet: Nat Adderley

Bonus: In the Latin Jazz world, Chocolate Armenteros. Limited amounts of his recording available, but his improv ability (I think) is up there with Miles and Wynton.

Holy smoke. Been waiting for this to right itself, all by itself. Traduional jazz is actually two types, similar but separated date-wise.

The original traditional jazz is that found in the era between Dixieland or Original (New Orleans) Jazz and the Swing Era. The other is that originating in England in the 50s and 60s in a revival of Dixieland but sometimes including more current popular songs but in the traditional, New Orleans style.

What it is not is swing, bebop, hard bop, free jazz and more contemporary styles.

New Orleans style
Traditional
Swing
Bebop
Hard Bop
- - Trad (Traditional)
Contemporary forms

Surprising to see Miles listed as a trad player I like Bobby Hackett, but am not sure I have THE ONE favorite player. As for revival band/current players I like Shaye Cohn.

Disclaimer: for me, traditional jazz is New Orleans, Dixie, Chicago style. Even Swing to me is not „true“ trad jazz. Certainly not Bop or any of the following styles.
