http://www.brookmays.com/i--TWCM17--Wallace--Studio-Trumpet-Practice-Mute.aspx

I've tried them all, other than the homemade renuzit mute i made, the next closest mute for lack of resistance is the wallace above. my renuzit tops them all.

regards

A couple of other ideas:
The stairwell is good, especially if it's concrete. Usually away from the rooms too.
In the larger hotels, look for a service door on your floor. The maids come out there. If you can sneak in there you can find a spot to practice.

For what its worth - I've found the Bremmer "Whisper" mute has next to no resistance and still lowers the volume enough to be safe to practice in my apartment without disturbing my roommates.

Original Best Brass practice is my favorite. The new BB practice has less resistance but is noticeably louder.

Wallace mute is very interesting. Not as quiet as the BB (first edition) IMO, but has some nice potential for mic work. Has about the same volume of sound to that of a harmon styled mute, stem pulled, but the colors are interesting to change with the gasket machined plug that can be pulled completely out or pushed in incrementally.

if you are into recording and want some unusual changes in sound without much fuss the Wallace gets my vote! Best Brass practice mute for motel/hotel practice hands down for me.

Best,

RC
