|
|
I'm hoping to put together an accurate as possible list for Selmer Paris cornets. The s/n lists online are for trumpets ONLY.
If you have an accurate date that you have obtained from Selmer or some other means of accurate dating, can you let me know, please? If you don't want to give me the whole s/n, even a partial number, like 145x, would be fine.
Thank you,
Chris _________________ Cornets:

Yes, I do know about that site. But there is no information about cornets there. There is no information regarding the cornet serial numbers anywhere on the 'net. _________________ Cornets:

My C/Bb Selmer Paris cornet was made in 1964. I bought it myself. It's s/n is 3507. _________________ Mikel Dupac / LawlerC7 / CarolBrass flugelhorn + pockets / Olds Super / Conn New Wonder cornet / Music is the healing force of the Universe |

BrassBandMajor - that list is for saxophones.
There is a trumpet only list at horn-u-copia.net _________________ Cornets:

Dupac - does yours have a removable leadpipe? I have seen the Bb/C model with both a fixed and removable leadpipe.
It may be the earlier ones, which seem to be from circa the late 1950s, had the removable leadpipe. _________________ Cornets:

The list so far:
442:1938
approx. 900 and earlier: pre 1942
1248: June 1957
1639 kmod: May 1957
2059: 1959
3507: 1964
The long model cornet which is the most common Selmer cornet, may have been introduced circa 1936-37, although 427 is the earliest serial number I've seen. A 1936 catalog doesn't have a long model cornet, but I have seen a photo of one from that year, or 1937.
When the K-modified was introduced the horn was redesigned with a wider wrap (vertically). This was later than the date of 1954 which is shown on selmer.fr website. The earliest K-mod cornet I have knowledge of is the one listed above from May 1957.
There was another redesign of the long model in the 1970s. The highest serial number I've found, of the redesigned horn, is 4296.
Selmer introduced the Concept cornet in the 2000s and they have a different series of serial numbers. _________________ Cornets:

No removable leadpipe. But an extension of the main tuning slide to use the cornet in Bb. I use it only in C, without that extension. _________________ Mikel Dupac / LawlerC7 / CarolBrass flugelhorn + pockets / Olds Super / Conn New Wonder cornet / Music is the healing force of the Universe |

Thanks, Mikel. Selmer may have discontinued the removable leadpipe in favor of a fixed. Cornet 173x has a removable leadpipe. _________________ Cornets:

I'm working on a long model Selmer Paris cornet with ser. #396. What year would that be from? It has all original parts, including a first slide trigger and tuning slide crook that bends out away from the first slide (by design). Nice horn! |

Likely 1937 or 1938. You can write directly to info@selmer.fr, in English, and they will give you the month and year it was made. _________________ Cornets:

Update: Selmer Paris says the cornet #396 was made in July 1938. Model 22 trumpet #6647 is from March 1948. Model 19 trumpet #4209 is from Oct. 1944. All 3 horns may be for sale in the Fall... |

I can't provide an exact date for it, but I have a large-bore K-modified cornet with serial number 23XX. The case is the same gray zippered design as a K-modified trumpet I have, #228**, which dates to 1959. _________________ Vintage Olds & Reynolds & Selmers galore

Your cornet is likely from the same time as your trumpet, 1959. If you want the exact date, just send an email to info@selmer.fr and they will get back to you with the month and year. But do let me know so I can add it to my list! _________________ Cornets:

Greetings: I have a Selmer Long Cornet with serial number 580. I emailed Selmer, and here was their response:
"Dear Sir,
Unfortunately that serial doesn't appear in our old databooks.
Probably manufactured around 1949 or 1950.
No more information unfortunately. Sorry for the inconvenience."
Lovely dark mellow tone, and amazing details, nothing like something modern. _________________ Peace, Tony |

Did you email Selmer US, or Selmer France (selmer.fr)? The latter is the one to email. US Selmer doesn't have info on the French made horns.
According to information I've assembled from selmer.fr, your horn would be late 1930s, early 1940s. _________________ Cornets:
