Hello
the O ring never changed things in a positive way, so i never used one.
On the other hand, the heavy bottom cap giving good sensations on my old 6310z, i put one on my new 8310 and took it off just for gigs, mostly for lead playing.
Weeks ago, i took it off for my practice for couple of days, and then, after those 2 days, playing was easier, better, sound more responsive and resonant.

I'll not put it anymore. I think that's exactly why Bobby Shew prefer you not to put such things on the Z, for he says it h'as been designed to play in such a way, and changing one thing will mess with the playing.

I use a booster sometime with my classical mpcs and apparently this has no negative impact on the horn nor the playing.

But this is my exeperience, with my horn.
best

Weight dampens frequency. It's physics.

I have had a weighted third valve for years. Also, reversed tuning slide, etc.

They work, I use them.

Old school (way old school) trick: put a dime inside the 3rd valve bottom cap. Carefully tighten it so it just touches. You don’t want the dime to deform the bottom of the valve casing.

It helps some horns, is undetectable on others and detrimental on others.

Yep - I drilled a hold in one of my few remaining silver dimes. It sits in the bottom of my C trumpet 3rd valve cap.

I've frequently set up trumpets with heavy weight bottom valve caps and mouthpiece weights that sound great in the practice room - only to take them all off when I'm actually playing in a band rehearsal - desperate for the correct feedback.

Works about as well as my Lefreque tone bridge which is to say indiscernible.
