Hey guys,

After looking through the forum I couldn't find any topic covering Torpedo's new case, the Volpe's Velox.

Does any one have the inside scoop about what it will end up looking like? I only can find it in the kickstarter video, and even then I can't get a good look at the thing.

Will it be polished fiberglass or the classic nylon? And are the metal latches for sure? I sure would love to see what this thing will end up looking like (if it gets all the funding it needs in 15 days, that is.)

Honestly I just want to get everyone's opinion about the case, because it looks really cool! (from what I can see)

Thanks!

This is the Volpe's Velox KickStarter campaign and case he's referring to:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1676721500/volpes-veloxtm-trumpet-case

Help us out if you can. 25,000 feet of gasket ain't cheap! Most of the other stuff is paid for, but it's that last chuck that isn't possible right now without supporters.

Metal hardware, yes, and raw fiberglass or carbon fiber exterior on this one.

Thanks for the info!

I made a contribution earlier this week for the Velox, and I hope some more people pre-order. Because this case really does sound awesome!

What would happen if you did fall short of the goal?

THANKS!

I dunno. I'm pretty invested in this thing -- about $16,000 as of yesterday when I paid the mold guy for the final shape and mold (expensive little mistake!). But I still have the 25,000 feet of gasket to pay for -- that's their minimum run to set up the tool and the plastic hamper with my specific durometer. Thankfully, I can use this part and the hardware for the trombone case. I think I'd still get it done, but might have to wait for Christmas season sales. A lot of the investment so far was from last Christmas cash flow.

I check the kickstarter page nearly every day...I'm so conflicted if I want the case. Are there any more prototype images other than what's in the video?

Can someone clarify for me? These are single cases, right? That will range from around $300 up to over $900? And is the main reason for it to save weight compared to the original torpedo case?

That's the way it seems to me. Personally I own a classic, peacemaker, and a coyote and I am not really seeing a point to the new case... It may be slightly lighter and slightly smaller than a classic but for the money is it worth it? The classic is IMHO the best single case out there and it happens to be pretty light, small, and a great value!!

I absolutely love the Torpedos, currently using the Outlaw.

I think Steve is trying to expand his line to include a case that is as good, but different from his current line. Speaking for myself, I think it will be a great case, if it's anything like the rest of his products. So have I pre-ordered one? No, I'm also waiting for some more details and pics.

More to save size than weight. Less padding where it's not needed, but smarter padding, so it won't matter where we thinned things out. The aramid core carbon fiber versions are VERY stiff, and the core is 90% air, so super light -- we think we can pull these off very nicely, with a little practice on the straight up fiberglass ones.

It's a very slim design because of how we twisted and dipped the trumpet, 2 mouthpiece slots inside, and there will be large padded accessory bags available to hold mutes on the outside. It's just meant to be super small with WAY better interior padding than I've ever seen inside a case -- the current problem I think we're about to break through in the next few days. The prototype was good, but we had to slice the foam into 5 pieces and glue the fabric down after the fact. We've been trying all kinds of things to allow us to pour the foam right onto the fabric. Mixed foam is very much like glue, so this kills a few steps all in one. Ain't no one using foam like this! The trick right now is making it consistent and uniform looking. It's getting there!

I just pre-ordered a Volpe's Velox for my C trumpet. I already own 2 Classics-my Bach Strad b-flat is in one, and my Schilke b-flat is in the other..I love the Classics--I don't have to worry about my horns being protected when they're in those cases, and I'm sure I'll love the Volpe's Velox too!!

Cool! And thanks! I think we get the Kickstarter money tomorrow, so we'll be back at it soon, hopefully getting a limited production run done in late July. Could be August...we'll see.

The other purpose of this case is to learn these new techniques so that we can make trombone, guitar, etc. cases, and get them to market sooner.

In case you haven't seen the prototype photo on Torpedo Bag's Facebook page here it is!

https://www.facebook.com/torpedobags/photos/a.321125357938700.84440.216889685028935/1078771062174122/?type=1&theater

It sounds like production should start next week and am looking forward to placing an order for mine. I like my classic but I think this will work better for what i want!

I don't think so. If you're on Facebook, you can follow the Torpedo Bags page. Steve posts pics and a brief update every now and then.
https://www.facebook.com/torpedobags/

Short version: they moved to bigger facilities so they could bring in better equipment needed to do the job the way he wanted to do it. It's taking longer than expected, but still moving forward. (BTW, I don't have any ties to the company, I'm just reporting what he's posted.)

Steve Kriesel (Torpedo Bags president) sent an e-mail on January 5, 2017 indicating that if he could stay on the latest version of his schedule he'd have all of the Velox orders shipped by February 20th. So, getting closer....
