I am one happy camper. My visit last night was informative and enlightening. The re-line went very well. There were many defects in the
clinic work, but we were able to fix so denture stays up without adhesive.
They feel good and supported well all around gums and feel like one with
the mouth. When I got home I played my trumpet, and was very happy
with my tone and range. I feel I have more lip out front, which I think
helps me better in comfort and playing. It feels so much better. A job
well done. I couldn't ask for a better fit. I'm so happy I stayed with my
gut feeling. Now I'm going to practice my heart out. Thank You All for
your support. I will keep in touch. Fred

That's all great news Fred! Now, please take my advice and don't over-do the practicing. Keep your practice sessions short (perhaps 10 to 15 minutes at a time) and rest as long as you play between each exercise you play. Do the same when practicing etudes or songs - don't try to practice all the way through a piece - break it into 16 bar sections and stop and rest between each section as long as you played. As my teacher Claude Gordon used to say, with enough rest one can practice all day.

Have fun!

Best wishes,

John Mohan

Thank You John, well said about practice time. I do keep practice time
and rest while getting lip strength back. It just feels so good to be back
to my self again. I feel for those who have or had problems with dentures.
Getting information and good recommendations are so important.
Everyone's different and their needs need to be addressed for them.
After paying my bill I will get my lower teeth done. Saving two for anchors
with denture to attach. I will be seeing a dentist that works with my
denture maker, who did my uppers. But for now, I can play and eat

Hi All. Playing is going well. In the end I only have to use a very small
amount of adhesive, the Powder Type works best. Eating takes a little
to get use too. For longer playing time I use a dab in the roof of the
denture. But the best is to not but much pressure on lip. Puckering is
much better for my playing. My tone is good and my worries are less.
I hope these posts have helped others as it has helped me.

Your posts have been greatly encouraging and informative for those who may find themselves in your situation. I can probably see these circumstances applying to myself someday if I live long enough to outlive my present natural teeth.

I think I have learned from your experience that quality and precision of fit are vital, and this will certainly help me to make any decisions as to who I would engage for this kind of service.

I am sure that less pressure is very helpful, which is something I have always thought would be needed. I would think that the less pressure is against the teeth, the better.

I hope you will continue to post on this thread as you move forward. I would like to hear about your progress as time goes on.

Many thanks.

Thanks David for your posts and support. Later on I'm going to have my
lower teeth done. This time I'm going to use 2 lower teeth for a partial
plate instead of a full one. The bottom teeth need to be anchored for playing. If someday I could afford it I'll put posts in my upper denture
so I'll never have to use adhesive again. If money were no object, I
believe one could have both upper and lower teeth as good if not better
than some original teeth. Some of these costs run as high or if not higher
than $30,000.00. I don't mean to scare anyone, but its reality on some
level. So if you have your own teeth, please take care of them.
Have a Great Day Friends Fred

Fred,
I would advise you to look into implant assisted denture. I had tried to play when I 1st got dentures after an accident with little success. With four posts implanted into my gums my dentures became as anchored as my teeth were previously, I was not playing then and did it for eating advantages. I recently picked up horn recently and now find absolutely no downside to having the denture as far as playing goes. Perfectly stable and if fitted correctly they work like your real teeth.

Downside is that when I had them done about 15 yrs ago they cost 6k$ and that was with a cousin doing the implants to my upper jaw. I know that implants are cheaper now but you may still be into it for 3k$, it will be the best money you ever spent as far as health alone.

Sorry if I am repeating a post, but 4 pages is a lot to wade thru.
Rod

Thanks, Rod, for this additional information.

I'm not there yet, but may be someday.

Good to have all the information possible about this situation.

I have just started playing again after 50 years ago, when I played for 12 years with my own teeth. I had trouble at first. The uppers would drop down, but only happened when I wasn't taking enough rests. So as long as I take proper rests, they are okay.

Timely discussion for me. I just lost another upper tooth a pre molar. I still have my eye teeth and front incisors but I require a partial denture. Thanks to all for sharing your experiences. i am 71 and would like to get another nine years in.
