Hello everyone.
You may have seen this posted elsewhere, but I have been working towards becoming a trumpet maker for the last few years.
I am now ready to announce the creation of my website and facebook page.
I will be blogging and releasing videos and pictures of the process of making trumpets, as well as my successes and failures while I do it. I also will be writing about any thoughts that I have about playing that come up while making the best horns that I can.
Right now I have 2 prototype horns that both play very well. I am in the middle of building my first 4 horns that I will be selling. They aren't ready yet, and I won't take any orders for horns until I am ready.
I hope that by writing this blog, I am able to share with the trumpet world what I always wanted to see as a trumpet player and aspiring trumpet maker: the process behind the design, fabrication, and testing of a great trumpet.
You can follow my website for articles and videos at www.divitt-trumpets.com or if you use Facebook you can like my page there for updates. https://www.facebook.com/divitt.trumpets/
If you have any questions, post them here or send me an email or message.
If you are in the Greater Toronto Area, I would be happy to get together so you can give the horns a run and give me and positive AND negative feedback you have.
Cheers,
Ewan Divitt |

stay at this. whatever you know now it will be greatly enhanced as the decades pass. every small maker seems to have some special knowledge and advantage.
if you could loan a unit to one of the professionals here and have them post a review it could be a low impact marketing strategy. i don't know how practical this is for you. |

I have a few people who I will be either meeting in person or sending horns to once I am ready.
So far everyone who has tried them in my area has loved them. |

I see that your bells are made in Germany; what valve-set do you use? |

Nice looking horns! Glad to see that you didn't fall into the sheet metal bracing trap.

I am not terribly interested in heavy horns. I would rather do it in a less obvious way if I was to build a heavy horn. |

worth noting here that when i look at, or play trumpet, it is all one long tribute back to the jazz age.
there are different customers, so some will go for futuristic styling. most buyers are like me and it is most sensible for makers to key into that market.
if you take a long overview of house architecture or men's pants you will see the tradition of restrained and classic styling. there are other possibilities but mostly we don't go wild.
just an observation. |

Ewan is currently building one for my son. My son played one that belonged to a trumpet player he met in NOLA. This person let my son play his. My son was very impressed.
Ewan used Carol valves on his prototypes, but uses Getzen valves now.
We are excited about this and my son can't wait to play his new horn.
This is a college graduation gift for my son. Ewan has been great to work with. |

Well, my son has now graduated and received his graduation gift of a brand new Divitt Trumpet. We ordered the regular size bell in bronze. My son had been playing on a Kanstul 1600 with a reversed tuning slide for several years.
My son is very pleased with his new Divitt Trumpet, and Ewan was great to work with. A very pleasant, honest, non nonsense person who makes very nice trumpets.
I would highly recommend Ewan's horns. |
