Hi All,
Working on a BE comeback after several years off the horn due to a stroke. Taking it from the beginning. Chops seem to recall the exercises and they’re coming along nicely, more or less. One problem: RO2b. Instructions are to do the exercise TOL, and I can’t get my tongue anywhere near my upper lip while sounding the double pedal. But I’m not having any problem with TOL in the middle register.

What’s up? Am I out of position on the double pedal? Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Jim

Likely. There are multiple lip positions in which you can play double pedals. The BE exercises, in total, are designed to be self-correcting and to coerce your lips into taking the best position.

Some players skip on-the-horn BE exercises that they can't do (or can't do very well). That is usually not a good idea.

I'm guessing that your top lip needs to come down more so the tongue can make contact. At least, this is the issue that most players experience with RO2b.

Good luck on your comeback!

Jeff

Thanks, Jeff. I'll be working at it.
